The Unexpected Champions – Part 5 | @Verbist_Philip

Hallo allemaal!

Let’s get your weekend started with the mid-season update of our second season with the Unexpected 96-97 Champions Lierse.

Last week we started great, but after that we suffered from a serious dip in our form. Trying to fit in a Russian winger seemed more difficult than I initially thought. Or is it because everybody still loves Raimond? That makes me the odd one out as I put him on the bench for the Bodart regen.

We resume the action in the CL. After 2 defeats against Juve and Milan, we are looking for our first points and money against the Grass Hoppers from Zurich. A win would have been ideal, but we have to settle for a point. We fail to score a 2nd goal and as it always goes they equalise at the end of the game.

The Unexpected Champions – Part 4 | @Verbist_Philip

Hallo allemaal!

Happy Saturday! Now that the children are back at school, I thought I would have a little bit more time. That illusion lasted just 2 days… Anyways let’s kick off Season 2 with our unexpected 96-97 champions Lierse!

Last week we realised our short-term goal and retained the title. Now it’s time to start working on our long-term goal and that’s winning the Champions League by the end of Season 5. The lads are a good team in the Belgian league, but we are still a lightweight against the big teams.

We have to strengthen the squad, but the board made it very difficult for us by taking all our cash away at the end of last season. The venom of a great season was in the tail!

Happy Saturday! Here’s Philip with your weekly dose of Belgium

Hallo allemaal!

On this final Saturday of the summer holidays let’s find out if the unexpected champions of the 96-97 season, Lierse, manage to retain their title. If we do so, it will be with an almost completely new squad. A lot of players left at the end of last season, but we managed to get some decent replacements in. Just before the winter break we are leading the pack and confidence is rising!

Apart from an offer on Haagdoren, nothing exciting happens during the break. I am hesitating for a moment though, but I am not letting him go. He is too valuable for the moment.

Merry Saturday! Here’s Philip with more from Lierse, looking to build on last week’s decent start

Hallo allemaal!

Happy Saturday everybody! Summer is slowly coming to an end, but in cm9798 September has already started.

For my new save I took control of Lierse, where we are trying to retain the title after their unexpected title race in the 96-97 season. In order to achieve that we welcomed a bunch of new players. We started 4/6 in the league, but weren’t successful in the Champions League Qualifier and lost to Germinal Ekeren in the Super Cup after a 10-11 penalty shoot-out.

That’s unfortunate, but the league is our primary focus this first season. We start today’s blog by welcoming my hometown club Beveren. We give them a 5-0 beating and they probably wished I continued my previous save.

The Unexpected Champions – Part 1 | @verbist_philip

Hallo allemaal!

I hope you have been enjoying summer so far and more importantly the start of our new blog season. I am honoured to be part of the Blog Squad and I am excited to present you my new save!

A new save I hear you say? Well, for the past couple of weeks I have been wondering how to continue my Beveren save. But every time the question popped up in my mind, there was this tiny little voice saying I shouldn’t it. Perhaps I shouldn’t make decisions after 2 strong Belgian beers, but the little voice is right. I did exactly what I wanted to do in the Beveren save and it is time for something new.

The Beveren blog was about building a squad from scratch, making them better over time and trying to peak at the 2006 WC. So why don’t we do the exact opposite in a new save? Spend money and go for immediate short-term success. I want to stay in the Belgian league and what better team to start with with then Lierse.

A Belgian Story: Part 27 – The 2006 World Cup | @verbist_philip

Good morning! For the past 27 weeks Philip has built a Belgian side, brick by brick, with the 2006 World Cup in mind. It all boils down to this. A nation waits…

Hallo allemaal!

Welcome to the final chapter of our road to the 2006 WC. I am sure you remember our ultimate goal. That was to qualify Belgium using only Belgian regens and do better than Belgium’s real-life performance in 2018 where they got 3rd place. We used my hometown team Beveren to attract the regens, mature them and get them ready for June 2006. 10 domestic trophies later, I believe we are as ready as we can be. We got the top regens and they all became good players with international experience.

Happy Saturday everyone! Here’s Philip in Belgium but hopefully the first game is not a sign of things to come…

Hallo allemaal!

Happy Saturday everybody! Welcome to the last blog update for our Beveren Boys.

When I look back over the past 8 seasons I am actually quite happy with what we accomplished so far at club level: 3 back-to-back titles & 3 Belgian Cups. Oh, and also 3 Super Cups. A trophy is a trophy, right? We proved domestic success is possible using only Belgian regens.

At European level the picture is a bit different. We’ve got some decent to good results, but if we truly want to compete at the highest level, I think we would have to add 3 to 4 international top players.

Can we add any silverware to our trophy room in our last season? It is definitely possible as we are still competing on all levels!

Last week we finished just before the winter break and we are picking up the action right after. And you know what that means: Cup time! We travel to Mechelen and we start this week’s update in a bad way: our first loss this season and elimination from the Cup. That immediately settles one thing: we’ll finish this experiment with 3 Belgian Cups. And we’re not the only one who gets surprised in the 2nd Round: also Club Brugge gets eliminated.

A Belgian Story – The Road to World Cup 2006: Part 25 | @verbist_philip

It’s Saturday so off we pop back to Belgium to see how Philip is preparing for another season…

Hallo allemaal!

Welcome to our 9th and final season with our Beveren/Belgium lads!

Can our group of Belgian regens qualify for the 2006 World Cup in England? Last week we won all our qualification matches and we can almost pack our bags. The only country that can prevent us from direct qualification is Ukraine, but they will need a few miracles to do that. Life in CM9798 can be very unpredictable, but the odds are in our favor.

For Beveren last season was a bit of a mixed bag. We won our 3rd Belgian Cup, but in the league our form collapsed after the injury of Cannaerts (Emmers) and we fell back to 3rd position. So no Champions League in our last season, but instead the Cup Winners Cup.

It’s our last season, so does it make even sense to pick up a few new regens? Most probably it doesn’t, but why the hell not?

Hallo allemaal!

Saturday! For me the best day in the week by a mile. How will the Belgium boys finish Season 8? Yes, you have read that right, it’s no typo. We’ll save the most important part of today’s update to the very end, when Belgium will play 3 important qualification matches for the 2006 WC. A good result will no doubt pave the way to England, that will be hosting the world cup.

Happy Saturday! Philip is still basking in that glorious win over Ajax. How do you improve on perfection?

Hallo allemaal!

Unfortunately we cannot go yet for some Saturday Night Fever, but luckily we have our weekly Saturday Morning Fever with the Beveren Boys!

Last week we took yet again a good start in the league and are we co-leading with Standard, who else. In the Champions League we were put in the Group of Death with Inter, Real Madrid and Ajax, but we showed we are not to be underestimated!
