The Wonderkids – Part 13: Break a leg

Hello and welcome to season four of The Wonderkids. We’ve been on a journey from Division Three and have finally taken our men with the minus touch to the promised land…we have arrived in the Premier League. You can catch up from the start here.

We saw our usual injection of funds into the club the clear the debt of the B Team:

The board immediately saw the opportunity to claw some of that investment back:

We’ve taken the opportunity to add to our ranks in the close season and we’ve brought in two long-term shortlisted players, Sergio “The” Marques “of Wonderland” and Nicky Weaver.

Which brings us to our squad that will take on the big guns…what a rag tag bunch. Roll spent all summer at the Euro’s to not get a single minute of action. Meanwhile Lauchlan got a few caps to his name.

As ever our training ground (The House of Glass) comes crashing in around us before we’ve started with key player out all over the shop. Three f****** cheers eh…

Results like this in pre-season don’t give me hope.

Ladies and gentlemen fasten your seatbelts we’re in for a bumpy ride. We start our season in a place nobody in CM9798 wants to start their season…Coventry and it doesn’t go well.

An eye opener into life in the Premier League for our wonder boys. We hammer the hammer’s, and this is more like it.

The Wednesday come away feeling like a Tuesday as we keep the heat coming. Parry is relentless, Almeida does what he does best, and gets his third booking in three games. Logical.

The great news is that Yuri has bent his way into the Netherlands squad but he has some tough players to get out the way to have his shot. Just needs to keep scoring.

And that he does as De Goey and Chelsea are blown away. Trying not to get ‘Parried’ away. Even their minus man and future Gateshead assistant manager Darren Caskey couldn’t stop us.

It is early days, but the league table is looking good. We’re back to our roots, conceding a lot of goals, the ‘keepers remain the major worry.

I’m hoping this is a good sign that the Veigabus has its wheels in motion.

Some call ups are in order for the newly promoted Wonderkids;

After two years of close tussles with Tottenham we earn our spurs and finally have our revenge on an ageing side.

This man has met life in the Premier League with ease. He wasn’t even in my plans in Division Three.

Bing is also finding his feet despite his stats and is averaging an 8 after four games at the back. All this with Lauchlan, Juan and Ramirez out injured. Getting cocky? Possibly.

Minus men Darren Eadie and Tom Youngs make up the numbers in this struggling Derby side, but they tear us to pieces and throw us to the ducks…it could have been more. Our strikers have a serious off day. That’s six in six for Parry. But we come back in style against Liverpool…

For a moment we were dead and buried but the introduction of Lauchlan and Rose changed the game. Now that’s Balling. The league cup shows our weakness further:

One shot, one goal. Almeida does an Almeida at Blackburn, but we hang on as they batter our goal all second half. I’m assuming poor finishing over great goalkeeping.

Yuri is on fire and Marseille are circling. Gillies is still unhappy, but he can’t expect to budge Parry out the side. We’re on a roll as Leeds visit the slicer and get shredded.

We get through Bolton in the pointless cup 2nd round and are rewarded with more Division One opposition in Huddersfield.  He’s Brazilian and we won’t sell for £100m but his season is over. Debut Premier League season they said. Break a leg they said…

He was having his best season so far. Our follow up is against bottom of the table Leicester and we have Yuri’s magic gets us through, but Leonidas appears to be a big loss.

It’s October and Yuri is the first to 10 goals, he’s having the season of his life. Balling needs two more.

And here’s how things stand after 10 games.

Middlesbrough’s Robson is hogging the manager of the month awards for his Champions League exploits, but we rule the roost at home. I didn’t think it would be possible after the opener against Coventry, but this league is wide open. Villa 4th with -4 GD and Man Utd crawling along but still tight at the back.

Next time out we’ll see if we continue to take to the task like a duck to water, whether we lose anymore glass soldiers, and if we can find a suitable long-term stand-in for our Brazilian midfield maestro. See you next time and thanks for joining us on the way!
