Bom Dia! and happy Valentine’s Day to all you Champ lovers out there! Nick and his Portuguese Wolf pack have just enjoyed their best season yet, finishing runners-up in the Premiership. Can they build on it?…
The dust has barely settled after our final game, and I’m straight to work on the squad. Riccy is first to depart…
After a head vs heart battle, I reluctantly release Capucho, who was awesome in the first division, but never did it in the Prem…
This is a gamble that might backfire, but I’m having two keepers this season. Miguel lost his place to Veiga, so he finds a Posh new home…
Our first annual award! It’s no surprise – he’s been magnificent!
Champions League qualification has done nothing to raise our appeal to any big names, so more regens it is. This lad looks great, but I’m not sure who he’s the reincarnation of…
This one I do know though. Welcome Jorge Cadete II…
Our award winner hasn’t gone unnoticed…
Our Champions League adventure begins against Partizan. I’ll take that…
The usual youngster loans follow…
And in a flash, we’re ready to kick off season seven. Here’s how we’re looking. I’ll let Pires go, and also Barroso when I can replace him…
Liverpool did the double, so we get the pleasure of playing them in The Charity Shield. Here’s how we line up…
We twice take the lead, and when Picão looks to have sealed it, the game throws everything at us like it does when you play the big teams, but we survive a barrage of corners, fouls and disallowed goals to get the job done. Does this count as a trophy? (I’m counting it)…
The regen bank is raided once again…
Before the league starts, we’ve got our first leg with Partizan, who we’re finding a tough nut to crack until Picão finally breaks the deadlock, and then it gets easier, as a Coelho double gives us a healthy aggregate lead…
A few days later, It’s drab start to the league season at Ewood park as the points are shared.
JP had a torrid time at Blackburn, but he atones to give us the lead against Newcastle, and the linesman denies us a second. One-nil is enough though, and we’re off and running…
Our pint-sized hero makes it two in two at Sheffield United, and for the second game running, we have a second goal disallowed, and this time it costs us two points…
I ring the changes for the second leg with Partizan, and we end up losing on the night. But we had a good enough first leg for it not to matter, and we’re through to the groups…
Where we draw Ajax, Club Brugge and Feyenoord, which isn’t terrible looking at some of the other groups…
Cadete Jr heads out on loan…
For the second league game running, we’re heading for a deserved win, only to throw it away and drop two more points. It’s always Marcus f*cking Gayle and Carl f*cking Cort!!!
We’re 12th, and somehow 3 draws and a win is enough to make me manager of the month…
We’re finally back to winning ways against Bolton, where after taking the lead, we can’t find a second goal until the last minute with their keeper having the game of his life…
We come back from 1-0 down against Leeds, and JP misses a penalty to turn it around, which comes back to bite us as we get hit by a set piece sucker punch with 5 minutes to go…
Our first Champions League group tie is away to Ajax, where we’re quickly behind. We’re not fazed though, and Coelho levels. The second half ticks on and we look set for a great point, but JP finds himself clean through and wins it! The whole team owe José Veiga a pint…
And then we go from beating some former European Champions to struggling against the bottom team in our league. We surrender our man advantage, and it’s another draw to add to the collection…
Things pick back up at home to league leaders Barnsley though, and again we dominate on chances, but can’t score more than one goal. Still, it’s a much-needed win…
It’s the end of September, and after batting off the usual myriad of Spanish bids, I let Eduardo join Lleida on loan…
Arsenal are back in the big time with Peter Reid at the helm, and are currently top. Veiga gets injured, so Claudio makes his league debut and preserves the clean sheet as JP gives us a second win in a row…
This really isn’t good news…
This isn’t as bad, but still bad. I knew having just two keepers would come back to bite me…
Well, this is ironic…
Next up in Europe are Club Brugge. JP gets us going, but again after countless shots we can’t extend our lead and pay the price. Thankfully this time, Coelho rediscovers his shooting boots and makes it two wins from two…
It’ll be Colchester in the League Cup…
After Veiga’s injury, I need a keeper on loan. This lad was the only one available…
We end this week with a Midlands derby. After a low-key first half, JP gives us a deserved lead, but we once again get hit with two late goals from set pieces. Paul Scholes really is starting to take the p*ss now…
A quick delve into the stats shows that we’ve had a total 142 shots at goal, 63 on target, and we’ve scored just 10 goals, which says it all.
Also, 4 opposition keepers have been man of the match in the 10 games, and that has cost us 5 points, which is p*ss boiling to say the least.
The table isn’t great reading. The draws have killed us, but we’ve only lost twice, and if we win our game in-hand, we’ll go joint 3rd…
So that’s probably a good place to leave it for this week so I can calm down for next week…
Join me next time for the remainder of our Champions League group games, and our League Cup tie with Colchester sprinkled in between league games. See you then. Adeus!
