Bom Dia! I hope you all had an egg-cellent Easter, and enjoyed last week’s season nine finale, where despite Nick’s final day permutations maths letting him down, his Portuguese Wolves were finally crowned Premiership champions! Can they build on their title success? Here’s Nick…
The World Cup squads are announced, and Fergie names four of the pack, but surprisingly there are no seats on the plane for Coelho or Amaral despite scoring 26 goals each this season…
My first manager of the month award of the season is the very last one. Better late than never…
I’m straight to work reshaping the squad, and first out the door is Ramirez, who never really got a look-in due to the form of Coelho and Amaral…
Unhappy Right-back Pinto fell victim to the formation change, so he’s off to Everton…
Fidalgo’s stint with us was brief, but he made an impact, much like Henrik Larsson’s loan spell at Man Utd…
I decide not to renew Xavier’s contract. There are no hard feelings, he served us well…
Fergie’s decision not to take my in-form strike partnership to the World Cup well and truly backfires, as Portugal fail to make it out of their group after three goalless draws…
So Jorgey, what can you do to improve a title winning squad? His first recommendation is this guy for £450k from Tenerife. His stats look amazing, but hopefully he’s not another dud…
I mean it’s hard to argue, I did win the league!
We’ll get a shot at revenge over Bolton for that cup final defeat…
Now for more signings, and everything about this lad tells me he’ll be shite, but a few clubs wanted him, so hopefully that’s a good sign…
And the same goes for this dude…
This kid however, does look the real deal…
Dani Pauleta hasn’t played for ages, so he’s released to free up some space…
For Fernando Couto’s regen…
Next on his bike is Elias (Jorge Cadete) without ever making an appearance…
And here’s the usual chunk of loan-outs…
All of that leaves the pack looking like this. There are still a couple I want to ship out, but all in good time…
I’m not one to change a winning formula, so here’s how we’ll lineup. After the rapid decline of João Pinto once he hit 33, I fear for Figo and Rui Costa, but time will tell, so I’ll keep an eye on their ratings…
It’s good news in the Charity Shield, as Bolton’s star striker Spizak isn’t even on their bench. The match is a damp squib, but Gomes gets the only goal to help us lift the meaningless octagon for the second time in front of a not even half-full Wembley. Woo-hoo!
A week later, the league season starts at home to Barnsley. We batter them for the whole match and get beaten by their only shot on target. Great f*cking start…
Things are marginally better at Villa Park, where The Boa gets our first goal of the season, but it’s cancelled out by Bardon, who loves scoring against us…
This is an emotional one. He was my very first signing but hasn’t played much for a while, so hopefully Ferrol will give him the minutes he deserves…
Maniche joins Ze Manel on loan at Alaves…
Sunderland are next, and If being champions makes us a Goliath, then it’s only fitting that we’re defeated by David…
Our first win finally comes at Craven Cottage. Coelho has been shocking so far, so I drop him in favour of Futre, and it proves an inspired move. We have liftoff!
More good news follows. I don’t think I’ve seen many better Champions League groups…
It’s a day for the new boys against Wednesday, as Futre and Vitinha do the business with help from Amaral to make it two wins in a row…
After equalising at Anfield, we’re on top and look the more likely side to win, but surprise surprise Liverpool get a corner when they need it and score. I hate this f*cking game sometimes…
After a spell on the bench, Coelho is back among the goals as we hold United, who aren’t doing much better than us at the minute. The board still think it’s a good result though…
Europe is a welcome escape from the league frustration, and a weakened team cruise against Ferencvaros. The board say very good result, and there was me thinking their expectations would be higher this season…
We take the confidence into our next league game, and it’s a first win in three at Colchester. After missing one penalty, Gomes is relieved of his duties, and The Boa shows him how it’s done…
Alaves are becoming something of an academy for us, and the third wolf to join them on loan is Gregorio on Spanish deadline day…
Spizak is back with a vengeance as we do all the attacking against Bolton but somehow go behind. We finally equalise after 18 shots on their goal, but can’t find a winner…
Back to Europe, and after a bright start, we make hard work of a Maccabi Tel-Aviv side containing nine grey players, but I guess that’s to be expected when you make so many changes to your own team…
The balls drop for the League Cup draw, and it’ll be Wigan. I’ll take that…
We fail to pull up any trees away at Forest, as we go behind and then twice throw away a lead to leave with just a point. What a pith take…
A point away at Arsenal might not seem a bad result, but I’m fuming. They have a man sent off in the 9th minute, and I’ll just let the stats tell the story…
Europe again provides an opportunity to release some stress, as we give our Austrian opponents a good Wacking. They had won both their matches as well, so this win puts daylight between us at the halfway point…
While things are going swimmingly on the European front, the league is a different matter. Again it’s a case of too many draws, and any hopes of retaining our league title look to have gone already…
It’s a mixed start, but hopefully things can only get better from here on. Join us next week as we finish off the Champions League group games while looking to put some sort of winning run together in the league. See you then. Adeus!
