9. A-Z of Football – Brescia (99/00) – Spring Cleaning

1st of January is with us, and we left off in 2nd place in the league. Things could be better, as we are currently 8 points off 1st, and the chance to move onto another part of the challenge. The “C” clubs could prove easier to get than the B clubs, although both letters have 18 teams available. David “I can’t get any names right” Pleat finds himself a new role;

Big Frank Lampard makes his move however, going up to Yorkshire

The offers start pouring in however for a number of my defenders. I am more than happy to let some go, but Aimo Diana is a big player for me, £3mil is not enough! This one can go though.

More loyalty issues in Serie A however, as this legend swaps clubs

However, Real Madrid keep the realism flowing as they grab a future star

Unforunately, I do have to let Diana go. To be honest, he was worth £2.7mil and I got £4.3mil for him, only issue is there isn’t enough time to go and buy a replacement so hopefully some current players can push forward

Our league form seems to be dropping off however. It does not look like a successful season, and if I can’t win the league I don’t even want to go up! Decided from now to show all of my results to see how we get on. Today’s result has made me decide to go back to the 4-2-3-1 that was successful as Arsenal because this isn’t working, as you can see from the result below.

Still sitting pretty in 2nd, but now 11 points off the top. If I don;t win this league, I have to stick with them in Serie A and only hope for a cup win! My only issue now however is after seling Diana, I have 3 CB of which 2 are foreign. With Mark Bosnich doing bits in goal, Stoichkov up front and Banin Left Wing, I am struggling. I have to drop Banin. The change in formation doesn’t help as we are defeated again. Not sure what I can do…

We are now 12 points behind. Cagliari have lost 1 game all season.

Screw it, lets go 4-4-2 attacking, passing style. Something needs to change and change fast. This works, as I pick up a 2-0 victory. Mark Bosnich has had 3 x 9 ratings in a row, so something still isn’t right defensively.

The Blackburn job comes available however, and I am unsure on how I would go if it was indeed offered to me. Do I stick at the 1 B team, or do I make it optional to move? Something to consider. They also have superstar Andrew Mainwaring, who actually starts for them ahead of Chris Sutton. For now however, up steps Cosenza who are sitting 6th, so another tough match. It does finish 0-0 however, and look who picks up man of the match!

.Cagliari actually lose, so it is back to 11 points. Is it possible? Maybe, The good news is, we have them next. If we can beat them, we cut that deficit to 8 points. It happens! We do it. Again, a game we could have lost on another day (Bosnich with an 8) we pull it out of the bag

So, I am feeling a lot more confident. Cagliari’s form has been pretty poor (W2, D1, L2) but ours probably matches that. I just hope this win can spur us on. This happens however…

And this is the result. I think it would be a bit of a cop-out to move to a bigger team, the A-Z challenge should be one where I stick to the club that offers me the opportunity.

Lecce are up next, they are languishing down at the bottom so it is the perfect chance to grab 3 points in the Cagliari chase! It is a hard fought contest but we manage to pick up the win

Cagliari also pull out the win against Cosenza however. So we are back where it began. New manager down at Blackburn however

Palermo away up next. Not entirely confidence but we have to remember Palermo boosted a lot after 97/98. Took a while. but they got there. It was a struggle and we pick up a 2-2 draw. Again….MOM

Good news however is Cagliari lose to Lecce who are 17th! So we now make that 7 points. Pescara are up next, another team that have yoyo’d within the Italian leagues but here, they are sat in 16th. 3 more points to put the pressure on?

Another tactical change, gives us another victory. Going back to the 4-2-3-1 proves successful and Stoichkov is better at CAM than ST. Also…

CAGLIARI LOSE AGAIN. It is getting more and more possible each day. Torino are up next, and another chance to catch up with Cagliari. However, it just isn’t meant to be

Cagliari with another loss though, and I am getting more and more confident! We do however end the update in 2nd position but only 4 points from Cagliari with 9 games left to play. Even after our 4-0 loss away at the Delle Alpi, I am feeling quite confident that we can win the title. Also, to end the update, a transfer offer has been refused.

See you next time for the conclusion to this season!
