A Cock and Red Bull Story – Part 20: Pokal progress? | @NTR9798

Wilkommen back to Germany, where RB Leipzig are dusting themselves off after a European exit at the hands of Fiorentina. Can they bounce back with a good cup run and respectable league finish?

When I say respectable league finish, I’m thinking at least top four, which is realistic…

Off we go then. A combination of wastefulness from us and Zwickau’s keeper having a blinder means we have to settle for a point after a highly frustrating stalemate against ten men in which we had nineteen shots at goal.

A draw with Bayern doesn’t seem quite as bad. After 36 minutes of frustration, we’re finally rewarded for our pressure. Ricken levels, but it’s another game we should have won really. Kahn was man of the match incidentally.

It’s looking like another frustrating one against Stuttgart. Klos is on fire, but Clausen finally beats him and has a second disallowed soon after. We force an own goal on the hour, which is enough for the points.

Due to rearrangements, we face Zwickau for the second time in three weeks. We’re all over them again, but get champed and trail at Half time. An equaliser is the least we deserve, but we just can’t find a winner and draw again.

After a wasteful start at home to Nürnberg, Hulk makes us pay with their first shot on goal. The second half is much better, Clausen gets the party started with his third in three games, joined by Leonidas and the Iceman.

It’s a ropey start against Cologne in the cup, but we’ve proved we can be a different team in the second half of games, and Gudnason and Clausen decide to have a race to see who can score a hat trick first, which Clausen wins.

We get some luck with the semi draw. Nürnberg for us, and Dortmund vs Schalke.

Düsseldorf make us wait, but the Ice man finally gives us the lead after a host of wasted chances. Clausen makes it two early in the second half, and Leonidas finished them off late on to make it three wins on the spin.

It’s an even first half an hour against Werder, with neither side budging. But two goals in a minute give us a half time lead. The Iceman soon makes it three, but then Carsten decides to be a Jancker and ruin our clean sheet.

Leverkusen are five points ahead of us in third, so a win would be nice. Gravesen makes no mistake from the spot, and the iceman makes it 2-0. A rare Gravesen error gifts them a goal, but his countryman Clausen seals it.

I never feel at ease with a one-goal lead on this game, and this result does nothing to reassure me. Normally I wouldn’t be too disappointed at drawing with BMG, but they’re 17th in the table and had been playing shite until now.

Second-placed 1860 next, and we’re behind at the hands of Sean Dundee, but Clausen gets us back in it. They’re on top in the second half, but I’ve an ace up my sleeve, and the Thai-phoon comes on to win it with the last kick.

We throw away an early lead against Nürnberg in the cup, but regain it on half an hour. Clausen further solidifies our lead and not even a super keeper performance can deny us a spot in our first cup final. Yay!

It was a toss-up between who I’d least like to play in the final between Dortmund and Schalke, but surprise surprise, it’s Dortmund.

Back in the league, we lead Bochum after scoring our only shot at goal. They equalise and it’s looking like more dropped points against them, but an own goal from Michael Branch of all people gifts us an unlikely win.

Time for a cup final dress rehearsal, and after leading 3-0 at half time, I expect a Dortmund response in the second half, but it just doesn’t happen and the Iceman wraps it up with a late brace. We’re now third with two games left.

It’s not all good news though, as Penksa is out for a month and will miss the cup final. F*ck!

Bielefeld can be a funny team to play against, but they cause us no problems today, and a solid win cements third place with a game to spare. We would still have a chance at second if our goal difference wasn’t so horrendous.

As if losing my best midfielder wasn’t bad enough, I’ve now lost my top striker as well. I swear we’re fated to never win a trophy…

With third place secured, and the fact that I can’t afford any more injuries, I field the second string against Karlsruhe, and they hold their own in an entertaining draw, with Kuntz’s regen scoring a last minute equaliser.

Another £2.6m goes into the bank, taking our pot to just over £20m. If only some top players wanted to join us…

Time for that cup final. Revault was suspended last time we played Dortmund, but annoyingly he’s back today. For us, Penksa and Clausen are replaced by Stojanovic and The Thai-phoon. We deservedly lead but it only lasts a minute, and then we’re behind after Duncan’s red. We don’t let it faze us though, and go in level at half time.

De Bilde gives them the lead for the second time and we look dead and buried, but the ice man takes it to extra time, where a goal a piece makes it 4-4 at half time. Just as I’m preparing to pick my penalty takers, Christiansen scores with the last kick of the game. FOR FUCK SAKE

So our wait for a trophy goes on. Looking at Bayern’s squad, I’ve honestly no idea how they’ve won the league by that many points, but I’m confident that my bunch of regens will come good eventually and win us that title.

I was too trigger-happy at the end of the season, and accidentally bypassed the awards without taking a screenshot, but there was nothing for us, so I don’t really care.

So that wraps up season six. Ever the optimist, I’m itching to start another summer of recruitment, and see what legends are reborn on the 16th of July. See you on the other side of the update. Tschüss!
