Morning all, obviously the strangest of times at the moment and nothing seems to spark a pile on like a royal debate at the moment, so let me just say I hope you’re all doing what you need to for your own well being. It would be an added bonus if that involves reading these pages – as ever on a Monday, we have Zak and the Warnock save, so what’s going on this week?
“Sir Alex said ‘we have it wet because we skim it around.‘ I went “can we have it dry and long”?
Warnock and SAF compare their preferred playing surface at Old Trafford prior to an FA Cup Semi Final in 2000. What did you think they were talking about?
Welcome back, Champers. Last time out our Plymouth Argyle heroes qualified for the FA Cup third round, and Windscreen Shield third round, as well as consolidated our position in the league.
Here’s how the squad looks; regens of Tim Sherwood, Paul Gascoigne, Ruel Fox, Nicky Forster and Teddy Sheringham are amongst the names.

Gameweek 25 would see former club Cheltenham getting the better of us for the second time this season. A tight boxing-day game is separated only by an early penalty. Danny Murphy brought up his turkey dinner in the 71st minute, pulling an abdominal muscle in the process.
We follow up two days later, heads clear, with a 1-0 win of our own against Wycombe. A red card from ex-Argyle forward Sean McCarthy helps.
We secure an FA Cup third round win over Hull City thanks to George Ndah and Ruel Fox junior.
Our Windscreen Shield run is ended at Roots Hall by Southend. Despite playing with ten men for an hour they held on…
The team dust themselves off against Chesterfield in an accomplished first half performance and a two-goal advantage courtesy of the Hopkins’. The Spireites received a rocket at halftime and pulled back to 2-2 before Danny Murphy nets a winner.
A trip to local (ish) Bristol City sees four separate scorers shine at Ashton Gate. Ndah and Hopkin have scored three apiece in the last five games.
A bore draw follows at Doncaster. Urgh. Enough to drive you crazy at the Belle Vue.
We follow a dud with goals galore in the FA Cup fourth round. York City are the runaway leaders in Division Three this season, so this result feels good! We are rewarded with a trip to Old Trafford… bring it on!
Highest of highs, follows lowest of lows. Second place Oldham cancel out a Danny Murphy opener before scoring a late winner. We drop out of the playoff places.
I decide after the game to change the formation slightly. I was playing with wingers (Ruel Fox junior and experienced Austrian Thomas Flogel) so move the no. 7 and 11 inside.
It’s still not enough to beat Swindon.
Or Altrincham. What’s going on, lads?!
To Old Trafford, then. FA Cup fifth round. The lads do the travelling support proud in front of fifty-three and half thousand fans. Jesper Blomqvist scores early and I fear the worst.. the ghost of Teddy Sheringham haunts the Red Devils as regen Gooden equalizes. Somehow, we mange to hold and take United to a replay!
I hope the United result can re-ignite our season.. we leave it late to beat Shrewsbury but it’s three points hard earned.
FA Cup replay time. The lads once again hold their own against Sir Alex Ferguson’s Man Utd. Steve Marlet threatens to start an early party, but the lads dig in. They can’t get the equalizer, but do the Home Park faithful proud.
Record breaking attendance confirmed as Pilgrims flock to Home Park.
Back in the league, Peterborough make like easier for us with two early red cards.
We follow up four days later by coming from 2-0 down to win 2-4 at Chester. Finally some character being shown!
Well.. spoke too soon. Andrew @kingoftherooks Chapman will be buzzing with this one.
The Gateshead draw brings up our 36th league game. We find ourselves five points off the automatic promotion places, and equally five points clear of the playoff chasing pack.
We’re delicately poised.. join us next week as we conclude season six. Will it be promotion or back-to-back failure for Niall Warnock and chums? Until next time.
