We’ve convinced Newcastle fan, and blog host, Dave to squeeze in one more installment of our South American Tyneside adventure before matters turn to the World Cup and 25th Anniversary celebrations – Thank you Dave.
To recap where we are at, we’re at the end of Season 3. Last season we won the FA Cup and this season we’re pushing for a Champions League place, if not a tilt at the title, and glory in the Cup Winners Cup.

Julio has been banging in the goals, but he’s shouldering a lot of the burden, and the defense should be better than their stats say, but that’s our lot for this blog.
We’re shot shy against Standard, but Tino spares us a loss and a valuable away goal for the return leg in a fortnight.
We have almost a week to recover from our jaunt to Belgium but it makes little difference. This game was a chance to claw back United, but Newcastle favourite Michael Owen did for us. Their squad is ridiculous.
At least we can take comfort from beating rivals Boro, although it’s a nervy win. Claudio has been a rare stand out performer since being signed from PSV.
The return against Standard gives us a glimpse of how good we could be if we only found a little consistency. I had high hopes for Esteban but he rarely shines these days.
Our semi-final fate is Crespo and Co.
Looks like we over exerted ourselves against Standard and it’s a painful reverse against Sunderland.
The transfer deadline is closing in, so I gamble some money on this freescoring Brazilian. I ignore the fact the goals have come in the Portuguese Second Division.
He’s not quite ready to face Bolton, but his signing seems to have lit a fire under the asses of my current forwards
Which is timely as we do well to overcome Parma with 10 men. The away goal is a worry though. Tino is playing with a smile on his face again.
Gaucho, Gaucho Man, I want to be a Gaucho man!
When my Columbian duo combine, it’s very effective. Feels like we have hit some form on the home straight?
Tino and Julio do it again in the Cup Winners Cup and we’ll face Atletico Madrid in the final. Freddy’s dream is coming alive!
I suspect you’re fed up of hearing me say it, but I hate playing Leicester City. I especially think (in the game of course) that Kasey Keller is a dick.
I find it hard to blame Kasey Keller for this one though. Just when it was all going so well
Hmm, it’s not in our own hands anymore. Those 5 dropped points is making 2nd place look a lot more distant now.
Bollocks. Tino’s season is over. He’s been a bright spark of late
Still, as long as the other strikers step up, we still have hope
With the games coming thick and fast now, I have to shuffle the squad and hope Liverpool slip up somewhere…. Old man Ruben and forgotten youngster Nicolas combine to see off Wolves.
Diaz and Claudio do the same to Leeds in our penultimate league game.
We’ll have to finish things without Chilli’s inspiring presence in goal
We need to win our final game and hope Liverpool slip up somewhere
We do our bit against Chelsea, just.
Narrators voice : ‘Liverpool did not slip up.’
Oh well, at least we have the Cup Winners Cup final to look forward to and salvage something from a frustrating season at least.
Rene needs to have a big game in goal for us in Chilli’s absence.
Atletico have a ridiculously talented squad. Barcelona and Real Madrid’s penchant for signing star players seems to have benefitted them by signing their unhappy players.
Atletico are far too powerful for us from the start and while Julio gives us hope in the second half, ultimately it’s the hope that kills you.
Julio did a lot of heavy lifting this season.
Unsurprisngly, my defenders have the highest average ratings
As it’s close season and Euro Championships time, I have no players involved in the tournament, which does feel a little strange.
Carvalho can’t be convinced to stay, so leaves on a free and then rejects a chance to rejoin.
He’s not the only one to head to pastures new. I’m not done with this challenge yet, so I decide to free up some squad space and transfer funds and unload a few players
As the end of season awards roll, we’re only represented by Julio as top scorer.
Julio is in sombre mood when interviewed at the awards ceremony
Tony – Julio, a good season for you personally, but disappointing from a team perspective, am I right?
Julio – No te equivocas Tony. Esta temporada ha sido un dolor en el culo! Tino has done his best like, but he’s too distracted by the lasses. Con suerte, Freddy abrira su billetra y conseguira algunos jugadores decentes el verano, o me ire. Incluso un Chris Waddle de 40 anos seria un comenzio!
Tony – Er, thank Julio, quite. There you have it, Julio Geordio, Premier League top scorer sending a message to Freddy Sheppard to get his wallet open for some summer signings.
Freddy does promise me some transfer funds for a summer spending spree, as we’ll have some positions to fill now
Rene has had enough of playing second fiddle.
Pablo hangs up his boots. He was disappointing so this is no big loss.
Freddy’s funds are still intact, but I had to look twice at the number of seats!
This is a good start Freddy.
I promise Freddy this signing is not the regen of Diego Maradona. Absolutely not.
Anyway, my hunger for South American glory on Tyneside hasn’t left me just yet, we’ll be back in the new year for another crack at adding some silverware to the trophy cabinet. Adios for now.
