I think we’re Cologne now – Part 15 : The End | @Matt_C_Wills

Hello and welcome to our final trip to Cologne. I’d like to say it’s been fun, but that would be bullshit. It’s been hard, it’s been frustrating and it’s had little reward. Maybe it’s time to stop being so restrictive with my transfer policy. We’ll see.

Anyway, here we are with 11 league games left to play and some cup business to sort out…

I think we’re Cologne now – Part 14 : Walking on Broken Glass | @Matt_C_Wills

Day 46 of 2026 and its still raining. I’m not sure what the weather was like in Cologne back in 2001, but given how things have been going, it’s likely to be highly changeable. This is the middle section of season 5 and my penultimate post of last years secret Santa blog squad adventure. So far, our limited border transfer exercise has only yielded one Pokal Cup victory, but it has taken us into europe. Before that though, a reminder of where we stand…

I think we’re Cologne now – Part 13: 606 Radio Phone-in | @Matt_C_Wills

Hello and welcome back to Germany where my Cologne cup winners are entering season 5 and probably the final season for me on this Blogsquad Secret Santa odyssey. A reminder of my self imposed rules – i can only sign German players and those from countries that border Germany, but only one each from France, Belgium and Holland. The issue all along is that my team is quite crap and German players in general are crap in this save, which means in four seasons we have achieved:

1 Pokal Cup win

1 Pokal Cup runners up spot

1 Bundesliga runners up spot

It’s been so crap, Dirk Schuster has had enough

I think we’re Cologne now – Part 11 : A miss from a Rose | @Matt_C_Wills

Hello everybody and welcome back to Germany where my Cologne team have had to become tight at the back and protect the fraud that is Oliver Kahn in goal. Here’s a quick overview of the squad as it stands

No real superstars ,are there? Bierfhoff has been our main goal threat but he’s knocking on 33 years of age now, while Purk’s goals have shrivelled up.

I think we’re Cologne now – Part 10 : Kahn you smell the glove tonight? | @Matt_C_Wills

Hello blog readers, it’s Tuesday and as I contemplate my impending 45th birthday, lets swing back to the year 2000, where we’re entering season 4 with Cologne.

I start pre-season with an Austrian signing to Purk up my attacking options, to add to my close season capture of Oliver Kahn on a free transfer to try and stabilise my defence.

I think we’re Cologne now – Part 9 : In the Nicolas of time | @Matt_C_Wills

Hello, welcome back to Germany in the 2000, where my Cologne team are a mix of goal scorers and goal conceders. Here’s where I left you last week

Fifth and eleven points off the pace with ten games to go, but we are still in the hunt for European glory in the Cup Winners Cup, but……we can’t overcome the two goal deficit from the first leg and just like that, we’re out of Europe. Landreau just proved too hard to beat twice in the end.

I think we’re Cologne now – Part 8: What you waiting for? | @Matt_C_Wills

Hello and welcome to 2026, or rather the fag end of 1999 in my Cologne save. We’re into season 3 and all we have to show for it so far is a Pokal cup runners up medal.

Here’s where we left things last time out. Scoring lots, conceding lots and ten points off the pace after 12 games, not ideal really…

I think we’re Cologne now – Part 7: We’re having a Balling | @Matt_C_Wills

Hello, it’s nearly Christmas and while I still have some presents to buy, there is still time to squeeze in another visit to Germany. It’s now onto season 3 after a Pokal Cup final defeat to Dortmund and the disappointment of £13m of our hard saved money being spunked on a stadium capacity increase. No matter, we’ll be back in Europe by virtue of Dortmund winning the league.

Let’s start with some cup action and it takes penalties, a lot of penalties to make it through to the Liga Cup next round.
