30 For 30 – Season 3: European Tour | @FMCM_FC

Hello. Welcome back to my challenge of getting to the very last screen of CM9798 which says you have now completed 30 seasons. Season 1 saw us take over at Greenock Morton in the Scottish 1st Division. We signed a load of free transfers and romped to the League Title. Season 2 we added a bit of quality with Sensini & Prosinecki. We manage a massively impressive 4th in our first season in the Scottish Premier League. We get wins at both Rangers and Celtic in the process. So now we’ve recapped let’s crack on with Season 3.

August

A crazy 7 games in the first month of the season! 2 League Cup wins. The win over Hearts went to pens and with some controversy (We had to retake a converted penalty which was then missed!) we progress. We beat Aberdeen away and grab a point off Celtic in the league.

Game of the month comes from the UEFA Cup. yep, somehow we are in the UEFA Cup despite finishing 4th last season. Cody comes on at half time for new signing Parry, who is Mark Hughes Jr, and changes the game with a sublime hattrick!

September

Another packed month in September. only 1 win in the league and getting knocked out of the League Cup to division 2 Stirling are real low points. We get battered at home by the Crazy Gang in the first leg of UEFA Cup 2nd round, 5-1. Then this happens in the 2nd leg.

We win 6-1 to make it a 7-6 win on aggregate. All in the first half! 2 a piece for McGraw and Prosinecki Then Cody makes it 5, Efan makes it 5-1 which is all square on agg but Cody goes in again to seal the most unlikely win. Also it’s our biggest win to date. Incredible!

October

Only 1 point from a possible 12 in the league is worrying. 2 games were against Rangers and Celtic though. We were 3-1 up against Celtic then conceded 3 in the last 15 minutes which was infuriating!

As ever, Europe is our happy place. McGraw in Europe has been fantastic, he adds another 2 goals to his tally. Legia make it 2-2 but Morrow seals the win with a great finish from just inside the area.

November & December

I got a bit carried away so you get 2 months for 1 here. They are both crap though. We are really struggling to score goals except a 4-1 over Dundee Utd.

We might be crap in the league but we are through to the UEFA Cup Quarter Finals! We scrape through on away goals thanks to a late equaliser from Michael Ricketts.

January

We only lose 1 game in January which is against Rangers. We progress in the cup, beat Dundee and draw with Dundee United & Hearts. Game of the month…

A great performance from Paul Gibson and a great debut for former Rangers forward Darren Fitzgerald show we can still mix it with the Old Firm.

February

Not a great month for us. Rangers give us a right hiding. We get a great result against Nantes in the 1st leg of the UEFA Cup QF. 2 away goals conceded isn’t great.

Our only win comes against Dunfermline. Paul Blair being back is a boost and Cody scores after a lengthy spell without one.

March

We are in real trouble. We are 9th in the league which means a playoff against 2nd place in Division 1. Nantes destroy us in France. We had to play 2 grey defenders which didn’t help. Falkirk knock us out of the cup which is tough to take. We have 6 games left to stay in the division. 2 of those are against Celtic and then Rangers on the final day.

April

4 wins and a draw, against Celtic, is exactly what we needed! But a final day loss to Champions Rangers throws a spanner in the works. Does it send us into the relegation playoff?

Yes!! we survive by the skin of our teeth! Kilmarnock were dead and buried a long time ago. Shocked to see Aberdeen where they are. Partick Thistle have been the surprise package, they played some really good football.

So we’ve had a great spin in Europe, a good cup run but an awful league season. Join me next time for another season of drama. Hopefully higher up the table.
