Great Heathen Army – part 22: Cups, Cups and more Cups

Góðan Dag Heathens. Velkomin back to Anglo Saxon times where we’re on the cusp of 871. When we left you last time out we had climbed back to the top on goal difference with Estone (Aston Villa) and Uuluuich (Arsenal) running us close.

We start this week with a home tie against Ligeraceater. CBA slots home a first half brace and everything is going to plan. Novakovic get’s crocked in the 67th min and his replacement Simone gets one back for Leicester just a few mins later. Brandal gets our third in the 85th and George completes the scoring in the 91st to make it 4-1.

We remain at home for the visit of Celchyth. Molnar gives us an early lead in the 2nd minute and CBA doubles it in the 19th. It seems Tsartas scores straight from the kickoff but CBA maintains our 2-goal cushion in the 40th. Tsartas gets saucy with a brace of his own when he scores in the 67th, just 2 mins after Stubbs gets his marching orders for bringing down Molnar when last man. This Chelsea team are so hit and miss.

We journey to Uuluuich next hoping for more of the same. It seems Frigard didn’t get that memo when he opens the scoring for the home side in the 4th min. We do get a foothold in the game and get back on level terms when Neset finishes a through ball from George. Arsenal then batter us from then on out and we’re lucky to only lose to Pivaljevic’s 57th min winner. On another day it could’ve been 4 or 5!

Cup time as we make the shortish trip to Blacheborne for our third round tie. I name my strongest side to show our intent and it’s working as CBA scores in the first minute to give us the lead. Unfortunately that’s as good as it got as Blackburn offered nothing in return and we miss a few decent chances to put the game to bed.

We get the slightly easier draw of Escanceaster in the next round….

Not so easy is the first leg of our European Super Cup tie away in Madrid. We take what I feel is a bit of a beating but come away with a 1-0 win thanks to George’s 39th min strike. Atletico seem to have plenty of chances but are largely wasteful and it feels like a smash and grab job!

I mean, it wan’t too 1-sided however for all their chances on goal, they had one less on target than us.

Back in the league and back at home and Beorma’s Ham show their intent in the first 5 mins by taking out our left back Heiselberg. We show them that we believe in an eye for an eye and send their left back Granville off on a stretcher just a minute later. Molnar’s 2 goals just before half time settle the game in our favour.

League Cup Quarters now as we face off against Cofantreo. George fires us in front in the 18th min and we barely face a shot in the first half. We start the second half much better than Coventry but can’t seem to find that second goal to kill the tie off. Lo and behold, Emerson equalises against the run of play in the 72nd min in what feels like their first shot on target. CBA puts us back in front just a minute later and it’s looking rosy again…until Emerson gets his second to take the game into extra time. It’s goalless after an additional 30 mins and so we head to the dreaded penalties. CBA, George and Neset all score theirs and Emerson of all people misses his. Liisberg then fluffs his lines but then so does Smith. Club Captain and Legend TSL gets the opportunity to finish the game but blasts it over! Johnson scores his first effort but when asked by the referee to re-take it, he balloons it wide and we’re through to the semi’s by the skin of our teeth.

Where we’ll face off with Monkceaster…..

Fowler opens the scoring in our league encounter with Liuerpul but it doesn’t last long as Neset hits back 5 mins later and Nilsen scores his first for the club from a corner in the 39th. Brandal get’s our third in the 59th and that’s how it stays. Tremendous result.

Our 4th round tie with Escanceaster is next and I manage to rest a few players keeping 1 eye on our 2nd leg with Madrid later in the week. It works as Neset, Ivar and Brandal all score in the second half to give us a comfortable 3-0 victory.

Bloody Cofantreo again…..

Euro Super Cup second leg time and CBA puts us into the lead in the 11th minute in front of a paltry sub 7k crowd! Who do these fans think they are? Averaging 24k in the league and only getting just less than 7 thousand for a European cup final! We hope our intimate crowd loved all one minute of it as the rest of the game flew by in a non-entity. Maybe the other 17k knew better?

Anyhow, that’s the Euro Super Cup retained and 2 of our sextuple trophies gained.

Just what you don’t want when you’ve the threat of a European night hangover is Utd turning up a few day’s later. We needn’t have worried as the lads used the first half as a warm up and to find their feet before coming out in the second half and scoring 3 in a frantic 14 min period where it could’ve been more! Shock result in the papers that one!

League Cup Semi action as we take on Monkceaster at home in the first leg. 2 goals from Molnar in the 5th and 11th minutes settle our nerves and when Liisberg gets our 3rd in the 50th minute, I begin to wonder who this Barthez guy is in net. CBA puts the cherry on the cake and a good foot in the door for the final when he grabs our 4th in the 80th. Denilson gets a late consolation in the 89th min and it’s kind of taken the shine off it a little. I hope that lapse in concentration doesn’t come back to haunt us?

We stay in our cups as we take on Cofantreo in the 5th round of the FA Cup. Fuglestad gives us the lead in the 11th min and when Brandal gets our second in the 51st, I let out a small sigh of relief. I decide to shore up the back by bringing on Nilsen for Liisberg in the 64th min to play 3 at the back. We’re back to a back two 4 mins later when he gets sent off for a straight red. Pillock! Connor decides he want’s to even things out and makes it 10v10 in the 84th.

Still with the cups and we travel to Northern Northumbria to take on Monkceaster in the second leg. We’ve a healthy 3 goal advantage and I think if we score 1, then the game is ours. It doesn’t pan out that way as first Gudjohnsen gets Newcastle up and running in the 22nd and when Asprilla makes it 2 in the 63rd, I begin to worry. Thankfully that’s how it stays and run out 4-3 winners on aggregate. Phew!!!

Of course it’s Utd in the Final!

After all the excitement of the cup finals, semi finals etc, it’s time for the more mundane world of facing 19th placed Sceaf Weds in the league. I don’t know if you remember but we struggled against the 19th placed teams in our run in to claiming our first league title last year. This year seems no different as Rivaldo (yes Rivaldo playing for Sheffield Wednesday) cancels out Molnar’s 29th min opener in the 49th min and Carbone equalises in the 82nd min after CBA put us back in front 9 mins earlier.

Our away tie with the ever present Brycg Stowe Rovers feels like we’re back to our div 2 days. Neset gets his second yellow in the 15th minute and the only other action in the game is Liisberg, CBA & George all going into the book themselves. We’re throwing this league away now with these crap results!

Okay so this one snuck up on me…. I’ve been so engrossed in our domestic campaign that I didn’t even have this on my radar. Bayern Munich arrive in town for the quarter final first leg and are thankfully sent packing after an early goal from Molnar and a late goal from Brandal gives us a 2-goal advantage for the second leg.

Another Quarter Final now as we travel to Mercia to take on Beorma’s Ham in the FA cup. We comfortably beat them in the league a few weeks ago so clearly this has 0-0 written all over it! Poor performance and an extra game we really don’t need at the minute!

Back in the league and we’re comfortable 3-1 winners away at Snotta Inga Ham Forest. I say comfortable but it was anything but. Nottingham Forest seem to have all the possession and shots but we just seemed to score with the few chances we had. It’s about time I did that to someone instead of it being the other way round!

Confirmation of our battering……

Our final game this week see’s us make the short journey south west to óþokku-ligr óþokku-ligr Loidis (dirty dirty Leeds). George with 2 first half goals putting us in a great position. Willie Mills gets one back to make it uncomfortable but a defensive masterclass from Ronny Johnsen ensures the points come back with us.

We’ve dropped down to third but do have a game in hand, which if we win will take us back up to top.

Join us next week as I’ll be bringing back my outfield loan players to help us in our push for domestic glory alongside retaining our champions league crown for a 3rd year running.

Until then, Morna!

    • Nottingham derives from Snotta Inga Ham. Ham is a farm/farmstead/area of land and Snotta was the family that owned the land. I’m assuming the Inga’s also got involved at some point. Tottenham derives from Totta’s Ham, Birmingham from Beorma’s Ham
