Bom Dia! and welcome along to another Friday of fun and games with Nick and his Portuguese Wolves, who have made a good start to life in the Premiership so far, including a win at Old Trafford. Can they keep up the good work? Here’s Nick with the latest from the Estadio Molineux…
After taking three attempts to get into this division, my aim before a ball was kicked was to merely stay up, so you can imagine my pure delight at sitting 8th in the table after 12 games. Let us see what this week has in store…
Mocking Paul Scholes’ random Coventry move last week comes back to bite me, as he and Arsenal cast-off, Paolo Vernazza extend our winless run to four games. Another man of the match display from our old friend Magnus Hedman only rubs salt in the wound…
Well this is just fan-f*cking-tastic…
Our first Premiership midlands derby ends in a third successive league defeat. I guess it’s only fitting that there’s an appearance from Slade with Christmas approaching, but I can assure you that not everybody’s having fun…
But then, just as all hope is starting to look lost, Miguel Bruno shows that he might just be capable of filling Coelho’s boots with a brace to get us back on track against the Royle Family…
While a win might seem like a nice change, some things however, will never change…
We make it back to back wins with a one goal to love victory away at Wimbledon. Cliff Richard is in the crowd, but there’s no rain to stop play, so we’re spared an a cappella show…
Our first FA Cup campaign as a Premiership team will begin at Non-League Barrow, which will do us nicely…
While we’re on the subject of cups, we travel to The Cottage in the fourth round of the League Cup, where The Boa and Bruno are at it again as we notch up an unexpectedly routine win to see us through to face Blackburn…
Liverpool are our next test in the league. We take the lead and throw it away three times, but in the end a draw is probably the right result. The United fan in me hates the sight of Ole scoring a hat trick for them though…
If you’d offered me a point away at Highbury before the season started, I’d have bitten your hand off, but somehow Arsenal are struggling down in 17th place, which takes the gloss off the result somewhat. The point keeps us in 8th place at the halfway point…
We begin the second half of the season with sweet revenge over Blackburn, as Pauleta finds the net twice to return to the score sheet for the first time in eight games…
We host Wednesday on a Saturday, and while they may have dumped us out of the League Cup last time we met, today is our day, as Manarte and Pinto avenge that cup defeat…
The win does of course come at a price…
Our defence stands firm to weather an early storm away at Leicester, but in the end we outsmart The Foxes once again, as Manarte makes it seven goals in five games…
More defensive injuries means more cover required. I’ve had this guy on my shortlist for ages, so feel obliged to pay Porto £325k for his services despite his underwhelming stats…
Mendes immediately makes me eat my words as he assists two goals on his debut, while Bruno grabs a hat trick as we brush aside non-league Barrow in the FA Cup. The draw for the next round deals us Villa or Spurs…
We face Blackburn again for the second time in just over three weeks, this time in the League Cup. Big Niall Quinn looks to have forced extra time, only for Pavel Kuka to deliver a late sucker punch to send us crashing out in the most dramatic fashion…
Of course losing alone isn’t quite enough, there always has to be some more bad news…
The pieces are picked up in emphatic fashion at home against Ipswich, as Pauleta makes it seven goals in five games, with Pinto and Capucho also chipping in as we plough The Tractor Boys thoroughly into our field…
The FA Cup replays are played, and we’ll face Villa, after they took care of Spurs…
After an early injury and late red card, we look to have battled our way to victory over Fulham’s Littlejohn and his band of merry men, but we’re hit with another last-minute goal and denied a valuable away win…
I seriously might as well just copy and paste this same image every couple of months…
Anselmo definitely has something about him, and hopefully Salamanca can bring whatever that something is out of him…
Our last stop for this week is a short FA Cup trip to Villa Park, where Bozza gets sent off after three minutes, and the game is done and dusted before half time, as Pauleta and Delfim do the damage to see us safely through…
Where we’re rewarded with an opportunity to chop down the Forest once again…
I’ll admit I was happy with 8th place at the start of this episode, and after losing our first two matches, I thought we might have been on the slide, but we’ve gone about our business quietly, and with a little help from other results going our way, we’re now up to 4th!
So, with 15 games of our maiden Premiership season remaining, we find ourselves ahead of schedule and, dare I say it, in with a realistic shot of securing European football! But we all know how quickly things can change in this game, so I’m not counting any chickens just yet, I’ve enough Wolves to worry about!
Join us next week as we enter the business end of the season, with games against Man Utd, Chelsea, Newcastle, Leeds, Liverpool and Arsenal sure to prove the ultimate barometer of where we’re really at. Adeus!
