Turf Roar: Season 3 – part 3 | @Taitanator

We ended part two of this season still in the hunt for the Premier League title after an epic 4-4 draw at Old Trafford.  Donal was the hero on that occasion coming off the bench and scoring two vital goals.

Donal gets the nod ahead of Earthworm when we face Newcastle at the Moor.  He puts in a MOM display scoring the goals needed to secure the win.

As transfer deadline day draws closer I head to France and specifically PSG, who seem to be having a fire sale. It looked great on paper, the reality, not so much.

As we head down south to the Dell the destruction we are about to encounter is unimaginable.   Getting a man sent off, again, didn’t help, but still!

It gets marginally better a week later, but only in terms of scoreline, not result.

The clash of the Clarets is next, we won the fixture earlier in the season at the Moor, however it’s a different story at Villa Park, three losses on the bounce, the perfect start to the final third of the season.

Freddy ‘no more’ sore Nee’s, returns to the match day squad after three months on the side lines and shows us exactly what we have been missing.  It’s a much improved performance and a needed win.

After Mulryne’s injury against Villa I’ve been on the lookout for a left winger.  Since Bernard Allou is determined not to join, I reach out to Savio, I’m in two minds about this, he should be really good but I’ve never managed to make him sing, in the end £700k and £3000 p/w is manageable if it all goes wrong.

I take it all back, Savio is a hero and any team would be lucky to have such a wonderful talent.  He caps off a heroic turnaround from 0-2 down with 20 minutes to go.

With six games to go we are in third, eight points ahead of fourth and four points behind Liverpool in second.  Man Utd are eight points clear, which I think is too much so 2nd spot is our target.

Leeds visit and their away fans feel the power of the Roar, ex-player Jimmy Crawford gets sent off, makes a change from one of our players getting dismissed.  De Souza and Freddy do the rest.

Disaster strikes as Johnny Candles is ruled out for a week, my only other keeper is some young Belgian lad called Stefan De Meersman, who nobody wants to take on loan!

Despite De Meersman’s inexperience, he is not the reason we lose to Coventry, he puts in a MOM performance, unfortunately every other fu*ker plays crap.

De Meersman is still in goal for the home tie with Sunderland, he’s not needed as an impotent Sunderland are brushed aside thanks to Freddy.

The victory against Sunderland moves us up to second, a point ahead of Liverpool, who have a game in hand.  We have three left to play and they have four.

To aid our run in we get the following positive messages of support.

After a quick re-shuffle Earthworm starts upfront with Freddy.  The two are sharp from the off as we beat Bury away from home.  Liverpool draw so we are three points clear of third with two to play.

Our final two games of the season are both at home, first up are Chelsea.  Dion Dublin gets sent off in the 7th minute and we lead 2-1 at half time.  The second half sees Chelsea come back strong, despite playing with ten men they take the lead in the 66th minute, only for Freddy to equalise two minutes later.  We keep pushing for the win and are rewarded in the 78th minute with a goal from Donel, he’s scored some big goals this season and that one keeps our dreams of Champions League football alive.  Checking the results, Liverpool lose so we are six points and eight goals better off, they have two to play.

Our final game of the season is at home to Everton, we take an early lead thanks to Freddy’s Nee.  Despite our best efforts Tommy Myher refused to concede another, but we hold out for a 1-0 win and Champions League football next year.

The final table looks like this, Man Utd pulling away at the end to win by eight points. We receive £9.75 million for 2nd place, which doubles our bank balance, tidy.

Clearly Dangerous isn’t too bright, he’s still banging on about finding a bigger club, plonker.  Way to kill the vibe, Dave.

Here are the stats from a fabulous first season in the big time.  De Souza pulling the strings in the middle of the park.

Freddy’s three month absence was tough and you can see why, he was still top scorer despite the absence. Dangerous, Earthworm and Donal provided support but just aren’t as consistent.  If only Freddy could stay happy and stop asking to leave!

Scully P, tops the ratings, not bad for a free signing back at the start of season one.  Denis Babb is our 22 year old captain and young Callaghan (McGrath) played well towards the end of the season too.  There are too many ratings in the sixes for my liking Keith had a poor season by his high standards.

Join us next week as we begin season four and our journey into Europe, cup competitions haven’t been our strength, but if we make it past round one the Champions League group format may work for us.  I’m off to try and find some players to strengthen the squad and shed some of the dead weight.
