Hola and welcome back to Gijon, which I have learned is a North-Western City in Spain. This save was started just to explore just how this Gijon team managed to be the worst in history with a paltry 13 points. Some days, I can fully understand it. We have however scrapped our way to 10th, scoring an average of 2 goals a game. That’s good. We have the worst defence in the top half though – that’s bad. Let’s see what the final 15 games bring.

A promising start if we are going to push to qualify for Europe. As seems to be so often the way for us, we have to go the long way round after shipping a couple of goals but we got there in the end.
That’s followed up with a defeat to high-flying Tenerife. Young Martin comes off the bench to score, it’s players like him that make us getting into Europe all the more important.
Bilbao are also in the running and we are awful for 70 minutes. Young Chuchi or whatever he’s called reduces the arrears but it’s not enough. Problems, problems.
Our next opponents should stick to either cars or banks. Their football team leaves a lot to be desired. Conte scores at both ends with 60 seconds, an impressive feat.
That Bakayoko injury is a month. Luckily there’s an International break after this. Betis help themselves to 3 points.
We nudge past Zaragoza. I really want this season over but also really want to be in Europe so we’ll have to keep plugging away, even if it is apparent that this team is fully of some talented but inconsistent performers.
Struggling Valladolid nearly take a damaging point but Kaiku’s 20th of the season spares our blushes.
Valencia are third so this is probably a good result but in the here and now, we need all the points we can get.
Compostela, who in real life were relegated on away goals in this season, may well go the same way. We should have been out of sight but instead we spend the last 10 minutes panicking.
The table looks a little bit better. I mean, not great still, with Real Madrid away to come, but if top 6 is a European place then we’ve still got a sniff at it and that is probably an achievement.
We take the lead in the Bernabeu! 19 glorious minutes before it all goes horribly wrong.
Ronald Gomez is out for the season so I’ve decided to promote Tomlinson from the B Team. In tough times, you need your friends around you. My unwavering loyalty is rewarded as his brace sends us on the way to three points. It comes at a cost though. Lauchlan is 17, I can manage his absence, but the keeper is out for a month which is basically the season. Young Veiga will have to step up.
An away draw is probably not enough.
Our penultimate home game of the season just about brings three points. All eyes on the other results.
Hmm well. 7th is possible. 6th is unlikely but our next game is against…Espanyol. Interesting. What makes it even more interesting is Deportivo won the UEFA Cup. The Copa Del Rey final is between Atletico Madrid and Barcelona. Either of those things might help us, but I don’t know for certain.
So then we host Espanyol. We’ll finish away to Mallorca who are marooned in the bottom 4 and will face the relegation playoffs, so you’d like to think if we can just force one more big performance then 7th is definitely on. Espanyol’s last game is against rock bottom Valladolid, so I’m ruling out 6th.
A great performance when we needed it most! Kaiku takes his chances and although it is 2-1, that fear lasts less than a minute before Macon pulls one back.
Never in doubt, thankfully. The job is basically done inside 20 minutes.
7th it is then. Whether it will be enough for Europe or not we will have to wait until the season changes over.
A rebuild is needed. I need to get it right…I won’t be fooled by you again, Dwight.
£6m brought in from sales already.
A quick check of the averages, I’m looking forward to Lediakhov being back after his season ending injury in game 1.
A couple of good goal scorers but room for improvement.
I’m going to leave it there. That’s been a painful first season at times but we got there in the end. Work to do but this could get quite fun. See you next week!
