Bonjola and welcome back to Gijon for one final episode. We’re going to finish season 8 today and then put this save in the freezer. I’ve enjoyed it very much but it has ran it’s course, especially if we achieve our aims today. As a reminder, that is for Gijon to win the Champions League and the B Team (henceforth, The Bees) to win the Cup Winners Cup. Let’s get to it.

I’ll stick with sporadic updates from La Liga as it really doesn’t matter how it plays out there. This sums up our season though, it has been a struggle at times.
We lose our final group game too but we’re still through.
Phew. It’ll be Auxerre in the last 8.
We have it all to do in the European Super Cup after this first leg defeat.
The turn of the year has at least seen an improvement in our league form. Logrones are eventually put to the sword.
This comeback win in Mallorca keeps it interesting.
Three horse race.
Barcelona are unbelievably bad. They’re just outside the relegation zone so we make sure to keep them there.
We have a right good go at Milan but it is not to be. Luckily, it is matterless.
Our league hopes take a hit too, I’m getting a bit sick of Real Madrid.
Our frustrations are taken out on Auxerre.
The Bees get a priceless win in Georgia, presumably after catching the midnight train.
This is a big win against a title rival. Well done us.
A heavily rotated side really looks like blowing a 4-0 lead when it’s 3-0 after 20 minutes. Luckily Freund immediately calms things and we do enough to survive.
It’s a more traditional last 8 lineup.
That’s going to be tough.
The Bees do the job against Tblisi.
Wow, what a game this is. We come out on the right side of a 9 goal thriller, hopefully a platform to the final.
Problems for the Bees though, a defeat in Italy means they’ll have to win the return leg probably by 2.
A good chance of the Bees retaining the Copa after knocking us out. A home win against Espanyol will put them in the final.
Job done in Manchester, we’re off to the final!
Oh look who it is.
I have to lend the Bees most of our better players and it takes Freund scoring a last gasp leveller and then winning it in extra time.
Another tough tie in the final but I’m sure I’ll be able to lend them some help.
This win should help us in the league title chase.
Those games in hand will probably do for us.
The Bees are in the Copa final! Figo cements his position as a snake.
Meanwhile our league form is still hanging on.
THE BEES HAVE DONE IT. It takes penalties again, Figo once again backs himself and fails but everybody else manages and part 1 is complete.
Lending my players to the Bees does have a downside though and this disappointing draw will probably cost us the league.
Who cares though, we’ve won the Champions League! That means the European Super Cup next year will be Gijon vs Gijon B.
Drat. But no big deal.
Real Madrid turn over the Bees just to rub it in.
Nobody taking my manager of the year trophy off me.
Let’s have a quick review. Fournier, or Laurent Blanc junior, set a record as our highest ever average rating. He is mint.
Bakayoko still loves a goal. Alex Martin much less so this season.
Freund, if I was to play on, will become the best striker in the world.
Progress was generally serene, though there was a brief spell where I was going to sell Bakayoko and rebuild. He stayed and the rest is history.
The Bees have had the time of their lives.
Mostly thanks to this man.
Bakayoko has been a model of consistency. Forever a hero to me.
Finally, this is what it was all about. I think, I’ve lost sight of why we’re doing any of this but I think it was this.
There we have it then, another save completed. The B Team element is a great side project and I’m glad I can tick this one off the bucket list. With that, I thank you for reading and we’ll be back on Friday with some CM9798 birthday related content. Goodbye!
