Turf Roar: Season 1 – part 3 | @Taitanator

Welcome back, Burnley are set for their final 16 league games, with a place in Division 1 at stake.  The Clarets have been flying so far, after thirty games they have 75 points, 24 wins, three draws and three losses.

Kyle Lightbourne is on a personal mission to become a demi-centurion, and he leaves it late against Plymouth.  In fact we were complete dross for 74 minutes, fortunately the last 16 were much better, an undeserved home win but a definite Turf Roar moment.

Turf Roar: Season 1 – part 2 | @Taitanator

We left the Clarets at the top of Division 2 after 15 games after discovering that Kyle Lightbourne seems to be a little bit of a league two legend.  Unfortunately he has been racking up disciplinary points even quicker than goals, and so come the first of November he will miss three matches

Determined to make the most of his opportunities before his enforced rest period he bangs in four against Wigan, including a hat-trick in four minutes, the first Turf Roar of episode two.

Turf Roar: Season 1 – Part 1 | @Taitanator

This blog starts with a secret, a secret Santa.  I was gifted this beauty, Burnley’s 1994 Wembley away shirt. Funnily enough, my Irish grandad chose Burnley as his club when he arrived in Lancashire, so I’ve always had a soft spot for them, how did blog squad member @Matt_C_Wills know?

The challenge is obvious, try and win it all with The Clarets, the rules are these:

  • I can only sign players from The Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland (thanks Grandad) or any nation that begins with a B. (Burnley begins with a B, it’s incredibly innovative.)
  • There are a maximum of three wild card slots available in the match day squad, these can be taken up by:

i) Any French player, the Bene and Hot rule, (Burnley is the only team to serve the French liqueur Benedictine topped up with hot water, selling in excess of 30 bottles at each home game, thanks Wikipedia.)

ii) Any random player as long as they have been signed directly from the official Wikipedia rivals list. The Clarets official Wikipedia rivals are Blackburn, Accrington Stanley (not on the game), Blackpool, Bolton, Preston North End, Bradford and Leeds.

The Wandering Bison – Episode 13 | @Taitanator

A tale of cigarettes, grappa, time travel and hopefully goals

Season 13 – 2009/10

It’s a World Cup year and the final season of the Dario blog, Dazza will be aiming to end it all on a high come July. The first order of business is the Supercoppa Italiana, Inter finally manage to beat Juve claiming an early trophy. No goals for Hubs, but strike partner Brioschi gets a hat-trick.

The Wandering Bison – Episode 11 | @Taitanator

A tale of cigarettes, grappa, time travel and hopefully goals

Season 11 – 2007/08

Hubs mind was made up the moment Inter showed an interest in him.  He needs to be in Italy, helping develop the future generations, after the embarrassment of the 2006 World Cup, Italy exiting in the 2nd round, losing 2-3 to Mexico. More importantly, Inter are the team that he has supported all his life.

A full squad rebuild one of the foci for the season, along with the standard plan of winning trophies and scoring goals.  Inter do have some players of note, Nicola Legrottaglie played with the Bison at Juve and Jose Maria Gutierrez Cano was a youngster at Barca when Hubs arrived.  There is also an aging Ronaldo and current European Footballer of the Year Johnny Levenard, who is a French striker with great stats. More than likely they will both be making for Dazzling Dazza.

The Wandering Bison – Episode 10 | @Taitanator

A tale of cigarettes, grappa, time travel and hopefully goals

Season 10 – 2006/07

Season 10, Bisonte’s fourth at the Nou Camp begins the same way as the previous three, a two legged Super Copa Espanola match.  Hubs is into the last year of his contract and has decided to that he will not be signing a new deal. Barcelona don’t mind, they have over £100 million in the bank and Dazza has become a legend of the club, he can do what he likes.

The Wandering Bison – Episode 9 | @Taitanator

A tale of cigarettes, grappa, time travel and hopefully goals

Season 9 – 2005/06

The Barca squad is pretty stacked, so no major purchases are made at the beginning of the 2005/06 season.  Some of the young guns are moved around between the Senior squad and the B side.  Cherif Rott is a young French lad with skills to burn, however he can’t run for longer than five minutes and a stiff breeze will knock him over, he has load of potential though.

The first game is the now traditional, Super Copa Espanola, the last two seasons this has been against Real Madrid, but this year it is against newly promoted Merida, they beat Atletico 7-1 in the final last year, in part, due to Atletico selling both of their keepers in the January transfer window and having to play with Greys in goal.  Merida are no Madrid and Barca manage to win the only trophy that has eluded Dazza since he joined, he even gets a goal in the second leg.

The Wandering Bison – Episode 8 | @Taitanator

A tale of cigarettes, grappa, time travel and hopefully goals

Season 8 – 2004/05

Last season’s campaigne ended with Barcelona and Dario achieving the treble, League, Domestic Cup and Champions League.  It was Dazza’s second treble in two years having achieved the same feat with Juve in his final season at the club.  With a potential “Triple Treble” on the cards it’s all to play for in 2004/05 season.

Barcelona make some squad bolstering signings, adding depth with hopefully high potential talent.  The 17 year old Zanchetta being the pick of the bunch, he is related to Paulo Maldini.

Season eight begins the same way as season seven.  A two legged Super Copa Espanola against Real Madrid.  The matches go marginally better that last year (2-3 defeat), it’s a 3-3 draw after two legs, however away goals means the trophy returns to Madrid for another season.

The Wandering Bison – Episode 7 | @Taitanator

Season 7 – 2003/04

Young Dario decided that Delli P’s advice about a melting candle could mean only one thing, the Sagrada Familia, so he joins Barcelona.  Papa Bison is staying in Italy, he has work to do with Juventus, and he needs to find a way to exert his influence over the struggling national side currently managed by Louis van Gaal.

With a big money move and a new contract comes improved bonuses:

  • 8 cigarettes and 5 shots for a team win
  • 2 cigarettes and 2 shots per goal
  • 5 cigarettes and 3 shots for scoring multiple goals in a match
  • 40 cigarettes (2 pack) and 2 bottles of grappa per hat-trick
