Tales from Wales – Part 2 – Gouldie Looking Chain

Welcome to a new week! Matt is here with his Welsh lads to get us underway…

Croseo and welcome back to Wales. It’s an all Welsh affair in Cardiff. A Welsh team and we can only play and sign players from Wales – simple, but can it work?

Well, we’re sitting pretty in Division 3, 2 points off top place Exeter and we pick up the action in our second Windscreen Shield Group game. The only blackspot there is Griffiths injury. Bumper crowd though.

Cup form merges with League form – blimey. Young Scott Morgan takes Griffiths place and helps himself to a hat-trick. David D’Auria getting in on the scoring is pleasing.

Davey D on target again but it’s Devine intervention to send Barnet home with a point.

Anything Rotherham can do, Pugh can do better. Griffiths is back and making up for lost goal scoring time.

We finally hit a blank against Macclesfield – the only positive is a rare clean sheet.

Damn, was hoping this guy could develop into my mainstay at right wing back. I check my phonebook for Clayton Blackmore’s number, he’ll have to put the golf clubs away for a few international weekends.

Age is catching up with Captain Kev, that’s a bit of a loss.

Thankfully Division 2 Wrexham don’t make us pay and its Welsh bragging rights for us in the FA Cup.

Clayton Blackmore had club duties, as did a lot of the Wales squad for the friendly with France so Robbie Savage debuts at right back. On balance, losing 1-0 isn’t a bad result considering the opposition.

Whilst the National team lose bravely by a single goal, my Cardiff side lose meekly by a single goal.

A week later and we get the result the right way round.

Welsh News Alert. Tosh is back in the big time.

More Welsh derbies in the Windscreen knock out rounds and Swansea take bragging rights again. I will have my revenge, you just see if I don’t.

Hmm, a two man advantage and we manage to lose in the FA Cup 2nd round. Are we starting to miss Captain Kev’s leadership and organisational skills?

4 losses in 5 games is not promotion form. A bit worrying really.

A welcome break from the league and our woeful form and it’s International Friendly time again and probably the minimum result I would expect against Luxembourg.

Whilst in the league, we stop the rot against Torquay but it’s another injury to a centre-back.

Young Dafydd Owen comes in on loan to shore up the back line from Arsenal and it’s a goal scoring debut and Wiggy makes it safe.

Maybe the slump is behind us, Carl Dale being Mr Consistent in front of goal and it’s a Boxing Day treat for the travelling fans.

Just the single goal the difference against Lincoln on a cold January afternoon.

Welsh News Alert – I’m hoping the Player-manager status changes to Manager next season and I can pounce on his regen.

Dale/Morgan/Wigg sounds like a firm of Solicitors or Accountants doesn’t it?

Carl Dale, where would I be without you?

So, even though I have assumed the guise of Bobby, his alter ego rocks up at West Brom. Good luck Bobby.

Barry Fry is working wonders at Posh, but we have too much for them and its great to have Deniol Graham back and scoring goals. That’s Jimmy Quinn, not the Micker, I’m afraid, he’s still languishing on a free.

Well, that win leap frogs us over Barry Fry and I can hear the swearing in the home dressing room. A third of the season to go and we’re looking good for promotion, but hopefully we can seal that title and go up in style.

Before we go til next week, a quick peak at the squad. We’re all Welsh now. Its helps that Bobby Gould gets offered vacant positions that just so happen to be interested in our Non-Welsh players.

Veterans Van Den Hauwe and Alan Knill have come in for cover at the back and Mark Cross is doing well at left wingback. Hoping all the Big-club release causes go unnoticed until April at least.

In truth, I’m just getting to know this bunch of players. Scott Young looks a prospect at the back and Scott Morgan upfront will need some blooding. The key to success will be keeping Carl Dale fit and in form I reckon.

See you next week. Hopefully I can find some more puns for Welsh song names too!
