What’s your Beath? Part 2: Golden Goose

Hello! Last week we got back in the saddle – albeit rather ungainly as we took charge of the Blue Brazil, Cowdenbeath. Yes, I was worried when we lost our first four league games and yes I did consider Steve Coppeling (look it up) the whole thing but it was a lesson in perseverance or throwing as much sh*t as possible at the wall – something has to stick eventually. Right?

The board are pleased but there’s impending financial doom. A problem to some, I’m confident our golden goose will arrive.

The Micker will drag us kicking and screaming through the leagues. He single handedly sees off Alloa.

Ding dong, golden goose calling.

There’s a pile on and the courts are feeling generous. Well done Craig Sinclair, you’ve saved Cowdenbeath.

Another win for the good guys.

Here’s a new full back, he can play both sides. For £30k, that leaves us £670k to pay our bills.

Two dropped points here, that’ll probably cost us.

A couple of wins and clean sheets – unheard of for us, but it’s all helping.

Montrose…bloody Montrose. We are effectively chasing them but we can’t get near them on the day.

Albion Rovers are the league leaders and once again they have too much for us here.

Berwick still can’t defend. The Micker likes this.

Uurrrgh some days we just don’t bother defending. Alloa make us pay.

£350k, lovely. Bowmaker was averaging below 7 but seemed a hit with some average clubs.

Here comes Francis Jeffers.

What a debut! Arbroath prop up the division for a reason.

The gap is down to 6 points. With 14 games to go that’s really achievable.

Gislason joins Jeffers as a loanee who can make a difference.

There’s no immediate improvement to the defending but 3 of the front 4 score to see off Alloa this time.

The Gower who scores for East Stirling here was on loan at us early doors before Spurs recalled him. He scores the most consolatory of goals.

Rob Cod! Not very often your centre midfielder scores a hat-trick but here we are.

Ross County give us a scare but from kick off at 2-2, Tomlinson earns us the win.

A bad day at Dumbarton. The orange shirts blinded us and once Bound was sent off we folded badly.

Still 6 points, 9 games to go.

This is better, we’re motoring now. Top of the table Albion Rovers are beaten at the Central Park.

MICKER. Montrose are finally toppled. It’s on!

Micker! Jeffers! Five against woeful Berwick.

Oh. We’ll miss him badly. There’s some big games to come.

Bottom of the table Arbroath really are hopeless. They injure the Micker though at this critical time so I hope they finish bottom.

We are within striking distance. Micker is only out for a week, mercifully.

His replacement, Pearson, also gets injured but his replacement, some dude called Scott, scores twice. Well done lads.

East Stirling are the next to be defeated.

Berwick! What a time to keep a clean sheet.

Tranmere, you are odd fellows.

Even the courts don’t care.

We scrap our way to a win over Queen’s Park. Jeffers has been a tremendous loan.

We’ve even reeled Albion Rovers in. An awful trip to Ross County is the penultimate fixture.

We’re absolutely battered so in the end I’m pleased to escape with a point. It does mean we’ve got to rely on some help.

ARBROATH! Dancing in the Moonlight. How on earth have they pulled that off?

Montrose the bottle jobs needs to go East Stirling and I’d love it, love it if they can do me a favour.

We do our bit. Can they help us…?

YES. East Stirling!!!

A quick check in and it seems Montrose have been laid low by the old mysterious cold outbreak. They had to play a grey up front and a whole bench of greys. Richie Wellens has a torn groin, so it’s not all lemsips and tissues.

Their best player faces a worrying wait.

The greatest of escapes from having to play in Division 3 again.

Now we’ve got to find a way to concede far less goals whilst hoping the Scottish night life doesn’t kill Mick Quinn over the summer.

Jeffers isn’t old enough to drink, legally, but we could do worse than get him back for antoehr season.

Some strong performers. Not in goal, obviously.

Tomlinson only scoring 4 at this level is a bit of a surprise but the 3 strikers did well. Jeffers over a whole season would have been interesting.

Let’s leave it there for this week. I’ll round up the awards and any pre-season transfers next week before we get into Division 2 life. Thanks for reading and see you next week for more!
