What’s Your Beath? Part 26: Drop one, curl one

Good day to you. Welcome back to Scotland, where Cowdenbeath are, for once, making the running in the early stages of a Scottish Premier Division season. A three point lead over Celtic is slender, but the 7 point cushion to Rangers gives me a tickling in my undercarriage. Still, if that doesn’t put you off, let’s find out what the middle section of season 10 can provide us.

As you can see from the league table, scoring goals is not a problem but we’re not exactly stoic at the back. The latest example of that comes at our season 1 rivals Montrose, who we needlessly let Matt Jansen have a lovely day as we turn 3-0 and 5-1 into 5-3. Three points is the main thing.

We’re making a tricky Champions League group look easy. Newcastle have assumed the role of whipping boys and we move a step closer to the last 8. A tricky trip to Ibrox is to follow of course.

In the here and now though we face them in the league and amazingly stop them scoring. Back to back clean sheets for us is welcome and the win actually has Rangers scrambling about in fourth. Ajao is phenomenal.

Hibs have slipped into third and they are hard to break down. Eventually, Ajao heads in from a corner and it looks like a classic away performance…until Wes Brown gives away a pen late on and we have to settle for a point.

We head to Ibrox in the Champions League and our lack of discipline costs us the services of four players. Foreman (Beardsley) is injured and Tarlue (Weah Jnr Jnr) is cup tied so it’s a mess of a team…

Never in doubt. What a squad man.

I think we’ll be through now. Technically we could still finish second but looking at the other groups, 13 will be more than enough to be a best runner up.

Back to business and Raith are brushed aside.

The perfect result in Glasgow tightens our grip on top spot.

The goals are flowing at Boghead Park, the three non-EU lads all net and this might be the rosiest our garden has ever been. If you’re wondering, I rotate one of the three goalscorers or Solano every game – Tarlue can’t play in Europe which solves a headache until the quarter final stage at least.

Hibs continue to impress and disrupt.

Here we are, battering AC Milan. Woods (Shearer) is getting better every week.

Scotland have a lot to shout about.

I have to say, other than Juventus who are presumably still extremely strong, there’s not loads to fear. Anderlecht in the last 8.

Back to business with a comfortable win at Partick Thistle.

With Owen missing for Celtic due to injury, this should have been a great opportunity to almost put our colours on the trophy. Instead we let Celtic back in and hae to settle for a point. It keeps them at arms length.

Things are definitely going our way when we’re winning 1-0 away at Hearts. It’s never a nice place to go with a big crowd but Woods secures us a big win.

If you’re wondering, yes this was Solano’s turn to sit out. Luckily our inspiration comes from the song Vindaloo, where we are going to score one more than you. At least one more. BUCKET.

Lovely Clydebank. They play the role of Raith beautifully.

Just when you think everything is perfect, disaster strikes. Our captain, talisman and set piece taker is going to be missing until April. Happy new year.

Every cloud – the non-EU rotation is no longer required. Montrose are hit for 6.

We head to Ibrox for a real test without the main man. We go behind and down to 10 and a lesser team would crumble but not us. Foreman levels and we take the point, gladly.

We fall behind to Hibs, twice, but they have 9 men by half time. I’ve noticed we’re struggling to create without Pavlov and getting Syx into AM instead of CM seems to be a solution. Three quick fire goals sort us out.

Cup action now and after losing Ajao for two weeks early on, it’s our turn to try and beat Clydebank’s annoying German goalkeeper. We just about manage.

OH HELLO. Berwick do what we usually don’t. Just need somebody to take care of Rangers now.

It’s a swift reunion with Clydebank in the league but this time we are not so lucky or accurate with our shooting. Two dropped points and the first really bad result of the update.

It leaves the table looking surprisingly close given we won 9 out of 13 with 4 draws. We retained the 3 point gap to Celtic but Rangers actually gained a point on us. They’re both machines.

So many strong performers. Syx and Foreman want to move to a bigger club, there’s nothing bigger than this!

And the goals, of which there have been many so far, and hopefully more to come.

Everything is set up nicely for a big finale next weekend. I’m desperate to get that first league title for these boys but given how well we have performed in this update to be no further ahead shows how note perfect we have to be to get the better of the Old Firm duo. Rangers’ goalkeeper will be back soon and they are still in with a shout. Can we see them both off for the first time? See you next week.
