Hello All and welcome back to Doncaster for Season 6. After a rapid rise through Division 3 and Division 2 (as Champions no less!) we have found life in Division 1 very tough. 2 seasons of relegation battles so far. Can we turn it around this season? I’d snap your hand off for a top half finish at this point!
August/September
We bring in 6 over the summer. Meldrum is John Collins. Mozzini is Roberto Mancini & Rust is Mark Robins. McAuley can play right and left back. Atmatzidis can play anywhere on the right hand side.
The first 2 months have been awful in the League. We are getting battered left right and centre. It’s weird because the average ratings for the team are decent if not spectacular. I’ve tweaked the formation slightly and in the one game we tried it we beat Huddersfield with 10 men. The amount of red cards and disallowed goals has been ridiculous as well.
October
Another terrible month. The only good news is our run to the 4th round of the League Cup where we will meet Premier League Aston Villa.
November
Is there a glimmer of hope? 2 wins and 1 draw as well as a beating off Bristol Rovers who got relegated from the Premier League last season. The win against Watford was nice. They’ve been a thorn in our side ever since we were in Division 2 together.
December
We are starting to tick over nicely. We get knocked out of the League Cup by Premier League Villa but it was close and we took it all the way to penalties. Drawing with West Ham was a positive result. They usual batter us so this is a sign of progress.
January
January is such a weird month with 2 FA Cup games and 2 League games. In the FA Cup we make it to round 4 before coming up against a very very good Man Utd team. In the league it’s 2 wins from 2 which sees us into the top half of the table for the first time, only 3 points outside the playoff places.
February
4 games and 4 wins. Absolutely fantastic form. It also sees us rise in to the playoff places which is absurd! The game against Bury is the obvious stand out game. We went 1-0 down then scored 3 in 5 minutes plus another 1 straight after half time to make it 4-1. Bury got it back to 4-3 but we punched 2 more in with 10 minutes remaining.
Player of the month is Dragutinovic. He scored 2 against Bury and had another disallowed in that game. 2 assists in the month as well. He’s been a bargain this season at £67k from OFK Belgrade.
March
5 games in March and we only manage 1 win which is extremely poor. Losing against Sunderland and Norwich who are 1st & 3rd respectively wasn’t a big shock. The win against Orient was super important as we are next to each other in the table. We sit in 7th just outside the playoffs.
The big news in March is losing Vinny (Ian Wright) to the big club release clause. It was only a matter of time after he finished last season as top goal scorer in the league. All the best to him.
April/May
It’s not the greatest finish to the season but we manage a vital win on the last day which nudges us into the Playoffs!
Playoffs
What a performance in the away leg! We totally blow Watford away. Youngs should have had a hattrick but had 2 goals ruled out for offside annoyingly. In the 2nd leg we stayed compact and got the job done. On to Wembley!
DONNY ARE IN THE BIG TIME!!!! Absolute scenes at Wembley as 16 year old Dion Rust (Mark Robins) gives us an early lead which we hang to. Willy Gueret was outstanding and fully deserved man of the match. Well, what a season! Join me next week for Premier League football in Doncaster!
