Sporting Eeyore – Part 19: Don’t Worry Bee Happy

Bonjola and welcome back to Gijon for season 7. Sporting Gijon are now the European Champions, a surprisingly one sided final against Juventus securing our place in history. Our La Liga title defence was somewhat more problematic but we got away with it really, losing 8 games on the way to a narrow success. Now we need to get the B Team good enough to win the Copa del Rey. Let’s football.

We’ll wrap season 6 up by confirming Bakayoko and me won some awards. Ortega, shockingly, had a great time in the Segunda.

No retirements again!

Right, with all that out of the way let’s sort the A’s and B’s out so we know what we need to buy.

Leaving the main group to go and have some fun (that’s how we’ll sell it to them) in the Segunda will be Tony Roberts (Rush), Pedro (forgotten), Shanks (McCoist) and hopefully some others still to be recruited.

Promoted to the big time is Fournier (Blanc). Nikiforov is 32 now and Lucic is 30, so we can’t rest on our laurels, or Laurent’s.

Here’s Signori re-gen

Stoichkov regen who plays the exact same position is also here. Both will be loaned as I don’t think the B team would play them.

I’ve sold Neil Alexander or £375k and replaced him with Bengt Andersson for £1.5m

Patrick Kluivert is available for £4m. I don’t want him but we think he is a massive fraud, his 02/03 season would agree.

Not for me. Enjoy, B lads.

The Spanish Charity Shield sees us get off to our traditional slow start but Mr Iceland snatches a last minute equaliser which may yet prove pivotal come a weeks time.

As it turned out, it wouldn’t have mattered. I don’t count this as a trophy but it’s a job well done.

The fixture computer has a good sense of humour. Two sides separated by only goal difference last season meet on the opening day and play out a 0-0 draw.

We’re off and running! We’ll have tougher tests than Logrones but a nice victory.

Always nice when you get offered a job without applying. I don’t want it though.

It’s not an easy draw but it’s better than the group of death we had last year. I’d like to think we’ll have enough.

This is a reality check. For some reason we always struggle in this fixture and a failure to break down 10 men for 42 minutes is unlike us.

This is a big shame. The Blanc regen has been performing great but now we’ll be back to the old guard for 3 months at least.

A hard fought win at Valladolid.

I’ve seen this one before. Life imitating art.

The International break costs us Denilson for 3 months. I am tempted to call up Juninho from the B team but I’ll see how we go with what we have.

Sigh. I struggle to explain this. Yes, Valencia are good but they had 10 men for 88 minutes. We nearly always score, but not here.

Normal service resumes against Ajax. Freund is starting to take his chances.

Oh, hello. In the Copa del Rey, the B lads have a first leg lead at Barcelona. This is doubly good news, one it could get rid of a potential winner but also it keeps the dream alive for the Bees.

Sevilla take a severe (get it?) beating.

This is more like it. Atleti are a bit of a bogey team for us at their ground but not today, despite the lad from Eastenders netting late on.

Champions League progress remains on course after this win in Georgia.

They did it! Despite losing, the away goals rule sees the Bees knock out Barcelona. Get in.

Real Madrid and Espanyol will take each other out too. So that’s handy.

This is getting farcical now. 10 men against poorer opposition for 80 minutes and we just about snatch a draw.

The clip of this. Our goalkeeper for a 4. I wouldn’t have rated him that highly.

Depor are brushed aside despite the apparent advantage of going down to 10.

A nervy win against Dortmund, who just won’t lie down.

This makes nice reading.

The Bees are at it again. A 2-1 win over Zaragoza gives them something to hang onto in the away leg.

The first team do at least manage to match the Bees success at the Camp Nou, another 3-2 win where we lead 2-0 and 3-1 but we just about held on in the end. A big result…

However, Real Madrid have come again. The perfect 10 from them. It’s never easy is it?

Join us next week as we try and figure out what on earth we’re doing here and hopefully the B Team continue their march to Copa glory.
