Hello to you. It’s not very often I post a blog on a Wednesday but today is a special day.

Remember when you were a kid, or at least 30 years younger than your current age, and you got really far into CM9798. You’d heard the rumours. The game ends after 30 seasons, that’s 2026! We’ll be so old by then…

Well guess what. Today is the day CM9798 officially ends. So unfortunately, we’re all officially old.

At the end of season 29, you press Done for one final time

After a brief tease with the message about updating the game and giving you the end of season awards, you’re then given the End of Game screen followed by the thanks for playing message. Don’t worry though, you can load up your game over and over again. There is a hack to take out the end of game date, but no further World Cup’s are generated and the game generally grinds to a halt – they weren’t wrong with the 30 season limit idea.

The 2026 World Cup is held in Mexico (close enough) and 65 year old Peter Beardsley scored the winner, which we have learned from the 2026 World Cup will likely have nearly killed him playing at altitude at that age.

So very old.

Anyway, I’ve waxed lyrical about this many times over, here’s much younger me explaining this about 10 years ago with a video of the ending.
