Basque Boys III – Part 8 | @cmclassicsquads

Hola! and welcome to the finale of season 3 with the Basque Boys. We won’t be defending our Copa Del Rey crown, but we’re 4th in the league and in the Cup Winners’ Cup Final. 3rd spot is still achievable, and if we can secure that and win our 1st European title, that would be a great season. Let the story continue…

We begin at home to Deportivo. It’s 2-1 at half time after Etxebe’s 9th and 10th goals of the season with a Kanu goal for Depor in between. Etxebe isn’t finished and gets his hat trick after the restart and adds a 4th just past the hour. He seems to do better in a 2-3-1-2-2 so this may be something to look at, but the other end where I have concerns.

Tales From Wales – Part 12 – The Green, Green Grass of Home | @Matt_C_Wills

Merry Monday! For one final time this year, we’re off Wales to see if Cardiff can finally make it to the Premier League. See you in 2021 Matt!

It’s Monday, we’re mid-table, we’re in Division One – it can only mean time for the end of season run in to see if’ll be holding out for a hero or stage a convincing turnaround (bright eyes) in form to reach the promised land of the Premier League.

Maybe it’s too early on a Monday for Bonnie Tyler song lyric puns?

Why not start with some 4th round FA Cup action to distract us from our league gloom?

Well, what about that then? A convincing demolition of the baggies if ever I saw one. Drinks on Queen Street tonight boyo.

Off Kilter – Season 9 Episode 1 | @PeterJonesPhoto

Peter might well be the most educated man I know. That or he just makes all of this up. He’s certainly got Alloa reading well having finally won the SPL last week. What will the new season bring?

“When people cease to believe in God,” G.K. Chesterton once wrote, “they come to believe not in nothing, but in anything.” Christopher Hitchens added “When people cease to trust the word of authorities, they often become not more sceptical, but more credulous. A truly hard-headed person could object that those who believe in God or in the benign ways of government were already prepared to believe in anything.” But there is one thing you now have to believe in is the well-nigh unbelievable truth that Alloa are the reigning Scottish Champions.

Yes, the ultimate Alba silverware is shining brightly in the Rec trophy…shed, operating a strict two-in-two-out policy as half of the wooden shack is taken by the groundsman’s lawn mower and kettle.

First bit of business out of the way and I don the perm and await the backlash on the stadium steps. No one turns up so I slip off to the pub for a quick pint…

Basque Boys III – Part 6 | @cmclassicsquads

Happy Friday! Here’s Nick and the Basque boys…

Hola compañeros gerentes! We’re back in Bilbao for another feast of Friday football. The Basque Boys currently sit in 4th place in La Liga, 2 points behind 3rd-placed Valencia, but 17 points behind Real Madrid in 2nd, so 3rd place is realistically the best we can hope for. Let us continue…

We begin with a visit from Sevilla, who after finishing 8th last year following promotion, are struggling in 18th currently. We start well and after a string of chances we take the lead on half an hour through Laslandes’ 24th league goal of the season. Sevilla have the better of the 2nd half, but it’s a repeat of the score the last time we played them.

A Legend Returns – Part 1 | @FMCM_FC

It’s a big welcome back to Nathan as he embarks on a new save. Last week we had the tragic news that the world had lost one of the greatest players ever to play the game. Here, Nathan pays homage to a legend with a new save in Naples…

Hello Everyone and welcome to my new blog save. As I am sure you are all well aware we lost one of the greatest (perhaps the greatest??) footballers to ever play the game when Diego Armando Maradona sadly passed away at the age of 60. He was both loved and hated, sometimes both at the same time, who lit up any stadium he graced. Whilst his off field life wasn’t exactly brilliant on the pitch I don’t think anyone could argue with his raw, natural talent.

When I was growing up the only two players thought of as the greatest of all time were Pele & Maradona. Although I had never seen Maradona play he was the player my dad told me was the greatest ever, as well as being a massive cheat. The game that sums this up better than any is of course the infamous game against England at the 1986 World Cup Finals. The “Hand of God” was one of the most blatant bits of cheating ever seen but Maradona’s 2nd goal in that game is considered the best ever at a World Cup Finals.

Off Kilter – Season 7: Episode 2 | @PeterJonesPhoto

Just like a Red Shirted Star Trek officer on a recently deunionised USS Enterprise, we’re up for whatever punishment those in authority deem necessary for the continuation of their decadent and self-indulgent righteousness of expanding the human seed throughout the universe. In this case, planet Kilt is occupied by the authoritative FA and their adroit actions to ensure their darling Rangers continued domination. No toupee wearing corset squeezed stuttering smooth talker can. Steer. Them. Off. Course.

But what’s this? Has the Scottish FA and Rangers’ loveboat sailed and sunk? Or is this dalliance a myth on the scale of playing Classical Gas after midnight conjuring up the Cuca from beneath the floorboards to scuttle and scratch under the bed at night. Do not bend down or make eye contact with those flaming eyes should you be foolish enough to investigate. What you should turn your eyes to is the league table which shows the horror of Rangers’ appalling start to the season, losing three games already. Celtic have joined us in celebration by putting as much daylight between us as possible, least those brown paper envelopes be couriered by a new postal company.

27. A-Z of Football – Ferrol (05/06) – Blank Slate | @FUT_Hatchet

Merry Tuesday! The A-Z is about to get F’n interesting as Liam lands a new job. But where? I mean you can see the screenshot. I’ll let Liam explain.

Here we go! A club I never saw myself at, Ferrol. A blank slate to build a fresh team. Before the season officially ends, I am going to add a few old players onto the shortlist with the hope of picking up some nice regens. I have a lot of experience with these kind of teams, as in my early days I was always looking to take over Farnborough Town when they came up. It is the kind of challenge I enjoyed in my earlier days! With hope, we could win a trophy in our first season and move on to G, where there are even fewer options (Genoa, Gillingham, Grimsby).

2001: An Ace Squad-yssey – Season 2, Part 3 | @cmclassicsquads

Hello once again, and welcome to another Friday with the Aces. Last week we swept aside Castel Di Sangro in the Copa Italia, stunned Juventus, walloped Sampdoria in their own back yard, and became the first team to get a result from Lazio. Let’s see what thrills and spills await us this week.

We begin with the next round of the cup, and we’re away to Roma, who are doing surprisingly poorly in the league in 16th, with just one win in their seven games so far. I revert to two up front for this game, so Klompe makes way for Tsigalko, and N’Diaye returns for Said. Balbo puts the hosts ahead after 26 minutes, which isn’t a great start for us, and to make things worse, Madeira is injured 2 minutes later, and Samba, his replacement has an instant impact, equalising on the stroke of half time.

Samba must have been chomping at the bit having only made a few substitute appearances this season, and he carries on his scoring in the second half as he puts us ahead on 56 minutes. Balbo gets his second to level the match once more, before Samba completes a remarkable hat trick on the hour. Di Biago squares the match again on 64 and it finishes 3-3, which sends us through on away goals. What a day for Samba, the loan spell at Wigan last season clearly helped him.
