Hello and welcome back to our 30 season challenge. The aim is simply to get to the final screen of CM9798 which says 30 seasons has been reached. In season 1 we had a blinder! We took over Greenock Morton and with a string of free transfers we managed to storm to the Scottish Division 1 title. So without further ado let’s crack on with the Scottish Premiership.
Some much needed experience brought in over the summer. Prosinecki will bring some much needed magic and Sensini some top quality experience.
August
What a start in the league!! We dismantle Hibs away from home. Really disappointing dropping out of the League Cup so early though.
By far the greatest result in the clubs history is beating Rangers!! We rode our luck a bit but a first half goal from Cody gives us a famous win!
September
Only 3 games in September and only 1 win. We went down to 10 men in both games against Dunfermline and Kilmarnock which killed our chances.
Against Motherwell it was them who got the red card and an early goal from Blair was enough to seal a win. Prosinecki gets injured in his first game back for another month. I did take a risk signing him with 20 for Injury Proneness.
October
2 wins and 2 losses in October. Losing 1-0 to Celtic wasn’t too bad but Aberdeen gave us a right pasting. A good win away at Hearts and then this beauty to finish the month…
Dundee United are usually a real pain in the backside but no problems in this one. I had been in the market for a new striker which must have put the fear of god into Cody who smashed in a hattrick with his first 3 chances. Hawke added a 4th, obviously not wanting to feel left behind by Cody. Blair wrapped up the rout.
November
3 games in November. Didn’t start well against Hibs. Finished by dishing out a pasting to Dunfermilne. With this game wedged inbetween…
Absolutely mauled Rangers in their own back yard. Hawke opened the scoring but Watson equalised in the next highlight and i’m thinking Rangers will run away with it. We reach half time all square and in the second half we completely blow them away. Hawke grabs a second then in the space of 5 minutes Duncan thunders a header in from a free kick. Morrow grabs a 4th late on to really put the gloss on our best performance to date!
December
A mixed bag over the Christmas period. 2 losses against Kilmarnock and Hearts isn’t great. Beating rock bottom Motherwell is good…
This on Boxing Day is brilliant!! O’Donnell gives Celtic a deserved lead but we equalise just before half time thanks to Hawke. In the 79th minute captain fantastic Hawke is in again but Larsson scores straight from the kick off. 83rd minute it’s Blair racing through to make it 3-2! that’s away wins at Ibrox and Celtic Park this season. Amazing.
January
Unbeaten in January which is fantastic! We beat top of the table Aberdeen away from home. We get our first draw of the season against Dunfermline.
Game of the month is this cracker at Easter Road. We race into a 3-0 lead, including an own goal. Robert Taylor goes on his own crusade by scoring a hattrick to bring it back to 3-3. Thankfully Cody finds a 4th for us because drawing from being 3-0 up would have been a nightmare!
February
Not the greatest month for us. 6 games in total with only 2 wins. We have our Hearts broken by Hearts in the 90th minute of the FA cup.
Highlight of the month is completing the double over Rangers. Hawke fires in a penalty and Cody seals it with a goal in the last 10 minutes.
March
2 wins and 1 loss. I can’t bloody stand Hibs!
This was a blinding result. Celtic are running away with the league but 2nd place is a scrap between us two and Rangers. Blair and Cody with 2 first half strikes to seal an important win.
April & May
We finish the season with a whimper to be honest. Rangers and Celtic both beat us as do Kilmarnock. A draw against already relegated Motherwell was really disappointing. Wins against Dunfermline & Hearts the only highlights.
So let’s see how we finished in our first season in the Scottish Premier League
Absolutely delighted to finish 4th. We topped the table briefly in January and it was tight for 2nd, 3rd and 4th going into April but we couldn’t keep pace.
Another successful season. Join me next time as we work through season 3. Aiming for top 3 still feels ambitious but we will give it a damn good go.
