Merry Monday! Matt is here with the latest from AFC United where they’re taking Division 2 by storm but there’s always a price for success…

Half term is over – not sure if that means a lot at the moment, but my calendar tells me its Monday again and time to catch up with our ex-Utd heroes, young and old, well known or otherwise. (I’m writing this up before the Sunday Man Utd/Newcastle game, so depending on the result – thank you Dave for publishing this!)

Last time out we were rocking at the top of the division and settling in new signings such as Darren Ferguson, Keith Gillespie and Clayton Blackmore. Our adventure continues at the glamorous surroundings of Brisbane Road. Bjorn ran the show, we were second class.

We’re into week 4 of our Alex Ferguson Cast Off (AFC) odyssey and last time out we achieved promotion to Division 2 as champions. The season was a success, David Brown emerged as the new Graeme Tomlinson, while Graeme Tomlinson became the new Chicarito. Danny Wallace was a man reborn, we couldn’t decide who to put in goal, and in one match we had a BeeGees tribute act on the pitch. Bryan Robson was injured a lot, then retired, convincing Viv Anderson, Paul Parker and Neil Webb to follow suit. We signed Keith Gillespie and Alex Notman at the end of the season, but our squad needs some depth for Division 2.

Hey, hey –Monday hits us like a freight train again, but for 15 minutes, lets just imagine we’re guiding a team of Fergie’s Flops up the leagues. We’re hitting the home straight in the first season of our collection of ex-Man Utd youth and stalwarts. Top of the league and aiming for promotion, but we’re always on the look out to add to our quality. Father Phil won’t be joining us though, John Aldridge sees fit to snap him up.

It’s a new week for all you CM9798 fans and Matt has the excitement of a new save to share with you. What you talkin’ about, Wills?

Don’t get me wrong, Cardiff and Wales are great, but the mall pool of talent in a competitive league can be a bit disheartening. One thing struck me though whilst searching through players – there’s a lot of ex-Man Utd players in the game.

Obviously I’ve become a fan of Deniol Graham, for his ability to score goals in all four English divisions, and as all lower league managers know, get in Andrew Duncan and Graeme Tonlinson early and you have a good chance of luring John Curtis, Alex Notman and Erik Nevland to your ascent up the leagues fairly swiftly. However, there’s far more ex-Utd players in the game than I had realised.

So, borrowing heavily from @cornishzak and his Newton Heath 01/02 blog, a pinch of @kingoftherooks Cheer Up Peter Reid, a reflection on Dave’s new Retirement Academy and I’ve set upon a quest to construct a team of Alex Ferguson Cast Offs, or AFC if you will, which predates the FC United movement after the Glazier take over.

Merry Monday! Matt is with us again and it’s the time for the final update of the season. There’s a lot at stake too, with Cardiff hoping to seal survival and then the small matter of Wales at the 2002 World Cup.

Hello, welcome, croeso – it’s Blue Monday apparently, but here we are only interested in Welsh music makers, sorry Hookey.

We’re into the business end of taking my all Welsh Cardiff squad into their first season in Premiership, where in the last part we had a little upturn in form to keep us away from the trapdoor and of course, we’ll be steering the national team to Japan 2002.

A quick reminder of where we were and where we are….

Monday is often the darkest day but here as ever to brighten yours is Matt Wills with his all Welsh Cardiff side. Is this the episode where they look like getting out of Division 1?

Snow is falling, all around us, children playing, having fun. It’s the season, love and understanding, stuck in Division One.

They say Division 1 is the hardest league to get out of and we’re experiencing it in our second season in the league. My all Welsh Cardiff side are 10th after 15 games and we’re looking for form to change our fortunes.

I’m not sure I can take another season of results like this
