Hello blog readers! I’m back at Elland Road for another entry into my African adventure in Yorkshire. We found our new cult hero in Quinzinho, or The Quicker, last time out, only for this to be offset by our ever porous defensive line. Can we make improvements in the middle part of Season 2?

Hello and good morning Champ Managers, we received the crunch end of our first season of the Elland Road African revolution and whilst part 2 steadied the ship, we’re out of the cups and playing for pride and hoping we stay clear of the drop zone….

Morning and welcome back to my African Odyssey at Leeds United where last time out, early season sparkle succumbed to disastrous reverses in results.

We’re like the wall street crash!

Leeds United – as a Manchester United follower, they are not a team I generally manage in games. This is mainly due to losing the 1992 championship to them and all my Liverpool supporting school friends laughing at me and my best mate Steve.

1992 turned out to be a bit of a peak for Leeds in the 90’s. By 1996 a dismal showing in the League Cup final put Howard Wilkinson in a strained position and not even the signing of Lee Sharpe could save him the following season. During his time as manager though, he did sign some amazing players from the African continent. Yorkshire pudding loving Lucas Radebe, Thunderbastard Goal of the Month perennial Tony Yeboah and to a lesser extent, the late great Philomen Masinga.

If you followed my Geordie Score save, this format will not surprise you – can I lead Leeds to glory using only players from the African Nations?

Lucas stays, Yeboah and Masinga return and I trawl the database for the best free African transfers available. Plus a recreated, random stat, hip swinging Roger Milla.

I’ve got a 5 year target – European Glory by 2002 and lead Nigeria to a good showing in the World Cup. For this season though, a top half finish for Leeds and the knockout stages of the World Cup for Nigeria.

Here’s what we are starting with – many unfamiliar names amongst the Leeds legends.

‘One More Time’ sang Daft Punk back when I was a scrawny young lad at Uni. Fast forward to 2023 and for one more Saturday we’ll pay a visit to our latin lovers.

There’s been many a big name signed that has flattered to deceive and many an unknown starlet lighting up St James Park. So after nearly 9 full seasons of fun and frolics, the trophy cabinet shows:

2 x Premier League Titles, 3 FA Cups, 1 Charity Shield and 1 Uefa Cup.

It should be more really, we’ve been runners up in the league once, the Champions League once and the league cup once. Twice in the Charity Shield and once in the Cup Winners Cup.

Hello and happy Saturday morning to you. Dave kindly gave me the week off last time, as I was visiting Cardiff and reminiscing about the time I watched Wales versus Argentina in a friendly at the Millenium Stadium. Veron played in that game and was immense. In my Newcastle team, he’s less so. Having said that, we do start Season 9 as English Champions, so he must be doing ok.

To try and carry on doing better, I sign up Leandro from Sporting Lisbon – this boy has goals in his boots.
