26. A-Z of Football – Espanyol (03/04) – Trophy Time? | @FUT_Hatchet

After a brief break, Liam is back with the A-Z challenge. Espanyol are make great progress but can they overcome their illustrious neighbours?

As we approach the end of the season, that has been incredibly difficult and inconsistent, we do indeed still find ourselves in the semi finals of the Copa Del Rey, facing Real Sociedad. They sit 5th in the league, 2 places above us as we have surprisingly climbed to 7th spot. Funnily enough, the first leg is next.

It is only at half time, that I see some of the quality this club have to offer. Bixente Lizarazu, Aitor Karanka, Sabri Lamouchi and Marcio Amoroso will give us a lot of trouble. The first half ends drab 0-0 but as we hit the 2nd half, the game comes to life. Hagi gives us the lead, but is cancelled out by Urzaiz, and that is how it finishes. A strong away goal to take into the 2nd leg.

Barcelona take a slender lead into their 2nd leg against Real Madrid, finishing with a 1-0 win. We take our form to Racing Santander, hoping to continue the win streak.

A 3-0 lead that we almost let slip, doesn’t help that I now only have 1 fit CB.

Blackstone – 3 months
Geraldo – 6 weeks
Soria – 1 week
It does not look good at all! Good news for Yorkshire

Up next, Logrones. Again, another league game that I don’t have much interest in anymore. However, the higher the finish, the more performance points I guess?

Bad result, meh. We don’t really care, all we care about is Sociedad. Here we go…Terrible start, Barla is sent off after 2 minutes, however Amoroso misses the penalty. Following that…

WE HOLD ON! We are in the final, great performance from the 10 men.

But, who will we have in the final?

The mighty Barcelona, will mean it is a Barcelona derby in the final. Their team is solid to say the least, however, one of their “star” players does confuse me.

This is Van Deene…

How does he play so well? 1 technique, 9 passing, 5 pace? I just don’t get it. Either way, we will do out best against him. Will we win? I bloody hope so. I haven’t enjoyed my time at Espanyol, and I can’t quite put my finger on why. For now though, away at Vicente Calderon

Now is not the time for a goal drought lads, come on! Again, only a league game, so not too bothered by the result. Going to smash through the next few games until we get to the final, as we have nothing to play for in the league. Will also post up any news that comes up!

NOOOOOOO JUST TOO EARLY! My hometown club…

And now, it is time. This is how the teams line up;

A weak first half, but somehow we find ourselves in the lead! Totti with the goal

Oli comes off the bench and brings one back for Barcelona, but Jose Maria turns it on and we walk away with a tasty 3-1 victory! Did we deserve it? Nope

A win is a win, and I will be leaving Espanyol….Thank the lord! Looking at F teams, we have our choice of;

F.Andria
Farnborough
Fiorentina
Foggia
Fulham

This one might take a long time…

Managerial movements going on though

Oli is on the move, leaving Barcelona on a free for AS Roma

And that is it! Where are we going to end up? I don’t know. It might take a while however…
