Cup Winners Cup9798 – Week 4: Gay for Nayim | @RossBell__

Another throwback to Thursday’s when Cup Winners Cup action blessed our screens. Here’s Ross with the latest from the CMCWC.

Here we go again, back for another week of CWCM action with the blog squad boys.

First up this week is Arsenal v Chelsea, Philip is absent this week as he’s doing something called going out for the evening ? Nope doesnt ring a bell with me either anyway to the action. Le Saux gets injured in the first minute forcing Matt into playing Danny Granville. Paul Davis scores for Arsenal after 53 before Vialli levels. Wrighty makes it 2-1 and then 3-1 thanks to Kevin Campbell again.

Barca v PSG is a fixture european nights are made for, sadly for us this is the 3rd division in Scotland. It takes Nick 36 minutes to realise his starting 11 is still the same from his last game last week in the cup. Luckily for him hes Barca so it really doesnt matter. Amor settles it in a close game. 1-0 to the Barcenal

Man U v Zaragoza is next, can Rob keep up his good start to the season? Well i’ll tell you …. Mark Hughes and Mark Robbins make it 2-0 at HT, Robbins makes it 3-0 before Danny Wallace gets injured in the 90th min, Dean just plays on with 10 men. Comfortable.

Apparently I still have to play games in this league despite evidence to suggest i should be relegated already. Lazio is this weeks foe and lets see what madness unfolds here. Mancini scores early for Lazio before Melli and Berti put us up 2-1 and thats how it finishes.

To round up the first round of league fixtures is Dave’s Bremen boys facing Andrew and his Sampa Lads (trying to mamke that a thing) Its 1-1 after just 7 minutes before Chiesa bags a hat trick after Salsano is sent off. 4-2 is the final score as you can see below.

Cup action next see’s Rob, Deano and Phil progress to the next round of the league cup. The perils of writing these blogs in advance is in full force here as you will see from the screen shot below. Rob is knocked out by Hearts, and it takes Arsenal extra time to see of Morton.

Back to league fixtures and we’ve got a now Covid free Nath and his Lazio team taking on Phil’s Arsenal. It takes Arsenal 2 minutes to get some Royal Blood on their boots by taking ot Stankovic. 0-0 nothing to report

PSG v Parma, the mere sound of that strikes fear into my heart, brace yourselves. 1-1 at HT quickly becomes 2-1 thanks to Dely Valdes then 3-1, 4-1, 5-1, 5-2 before it finishes 6-2 to PSG. Pretty much as predicted.

Sampdoria v Chelsea is a classic (in my mind anyway) Cup Winners Cup match up, Some one fact check that for me. 2-1 at HT to Sampdoria and thats how it finishes dispite the best efforts of Chelsea’s strikers.

Bremen v Man U, I’ve got nothing witty for this one. Lets see who wins. Mark Robins again the man cant be stopped. 1-0 thanks to Robins is all Dean needs

Zaragoza v Barca, El Classico of sorts. Well not really but both are in very good form. Gay comes in for Nayim for Rob in this one, 2-1 to Barcelona at half time thanks to Ronaldo and Pizzi for Barca quickly turns into 3-1 with Pizzi getting his second and then a third to mak it 4-1.

Nick’s Barca drew Rangers in the League Cup. The first AI v Human game thats worth reporting on. Lets get to it. it should be note Rangers signed Denilson just before this game It matters not a bit to Ronaldo though as he makes it 1-0 then De La Pena makes it 2 before a comfortable win.

A bit of extra Irn-Bru action here, Nath takes on the mighty Airdrie. A comfy in the end 3-1. I Take on Dean’s Man U team ready to face the Mighty Marks, I forgot all about Brian McClair, 2-1 it finishes and finally Dave takes on Andrew again. Dave’s had enough of his team already and plays young grey Billy Liddell at right back. 3 goals 2 red cards and 2 disallowed goals in this action packed affair

Arsenal v PSG is a battle of the big scoring teams, which teams firepower is more lethal? Well that was a disapointment.

Barca v Werder Bremen, on paper looks very one sided but Dave’s charges have shown glimpses of being quite good so far. (I wrote this before we started this weeks games) 4-0 it finishes in the least surprising result of the night.

Chelsea v Lazio, Copy and Paste what I wrote about Chelsea v Sampdoria. Matt makes wholesale changes before the game, to no avail as Salas opens the scoring within 10 mins and Mihajovic makes it 2 before ht and thats how it ends.

Man U v Sampdoria, The ’91 iteration of Man U isn’t great but in the Marvelous Mark up front Deano always has a chance in every game. Mark Hughes has been quiet tonight but he opens the scoring here and closes it as well 2-0 to Mark Hughes.

The final league game this week see’s my Parma misfits up against one of the most dangerous strikers in this league in Juan Esnaider, Can we keep him quiet? Not likely but lets see what happens. Melli opens the scoring for me before Poyet levels. Tino makes it 2-1 in the second half and it finishes 2-1 for a vital win for Parma.

Fianlly this week we have another meeting of PSG v Barca, this time in France and this time in the Irn-Bru Trophy. 0-0 at FT means Extra ime for us here, Penalties it is! PSG win 4-2 on Pens.

Thats all for this week, thanks for reading again. Lets check out the league and see how the runners and riders are getting on.

We will reconvene on Zoom this Tuesday and you’ll read all about it the next Thursday, Spolier thats how this works.

Tooodles x
