What’s your Beath? Part 21: Bhoys to Men

Hello! As a man thoroughly enjoying Ted Lasso at the moment, let me tell you – Football is Life! Whilst we don’t have Dani Rojas here at Cowdenbeath we do have Hristo Pavlov, or Stoichdog if you prefer. It’s every bit a three horse race at the top and for once it’s Celtic who are at the top of the pile. It’ll be a huge disappointment for whoever misses out on the lucrative Champions League spot but maybe this is our chance to win the league for the first time. Let’s see how it plays out…

A good start to this evening’s events sees us demolish Hearts. Too many broken hearts in the world said Jason Donovan about events at Tynecastle.

Billy Mac has broken his pelvis. I knew it was a mistake to put thrusting on the training plan ahead of a big clash with Celtic.

We are definitely cooking up something special. Solano’s first half header sees off Celtic and the dream remains alive.

With Billy Mac broken I’ve splashed £525k on Brian Crowe. I don’t think it’s Roy Keane but he’ll certainly do.

The FA Cup sees us face Montrose, our rivals from season one back in Division 3. We still can’t shake them despite taking the lead. We’ll replay in 10 days.

Stubborn Raith are defeated. Oakley is really coming on well.

We get a scare in the replay as our old enemies take a late lead but it actually just scares us into action and we rally to win. Nice.

Meanwhile Rangers’ take an Old Firm pasting.

If we win the game in hand we will be top…

Before that though we face Rangers who quickly douse our hopes of being league winners. Drat.

Alloa are hopeless. An easy win gets us back on track.

Berwick don’t offer much opposition in the last 16 so let’s hope for a decent draw…

…Rangers away. Seems about right.

Airdrie are having a good season but they are no threat to us in this form. The front 2 are superb.

Stoichdog is at it again at Easter Road. A quickfire double and the train rides on

Raith are at it again. I love them like they are my own.

A thriller at Central Park sees us win a 9 goal classic. That said we were 5-1 up so only winning 6-3 is a bit disappointing, especially if it comes down to goal difference.

FA Cup time and we are thrashed at Ibrox. It can happen. The goal scorers sum it up.

Anyway we don’t need the FA Cup, we’re still fighting for this title as a great man once said. Hearts take another beating.

Meanwhile a day later Rangers draw a blank again. Heads gone.

We nearly blow a 2 goal lead against the same opponents but Fotiadis sorts that out.

Transfer deadline is approaching and that brings mixed news. £1m for third choice Russ is welcome for the coffers.

Bad news though. Oakley is off. His loyalty from the previous episode long forgotten. £6.5m though.

This guy for £100k is the best I can do at short notice.

I’d rather Oakley was still here for our trip to Celtic Park but as it is, the lads trade blows with our more illustrious opponents but we eventually succumb to the odd goal in 5. That’s a blow.

It now leaves us in trouble in the pursuit of the title but still ahead of Rangers even if they win the game in hand.

Alloa are brushed aside. They are hopeless.

Celtic snatch a late leveller in the Old Firm game which isn’t the worst result.

We’ve still got effectively a one loss cushion to Rangers, although our goal difference is only marginally worse.

Raith have bailed us out so many times they try again here but down to 9 men, they eventually fall with just 5 minutes left. Thanks for trying lads.

Thankfully they have no try left in them for our visit. Naglestad off the mark too.

Three games to go and all endings are still possible.

It’s Rangers next though and despite Syxy boy bringing us level, we’re hanging on for what would be a vital point…but Henry shatters our hopes.

Celtic drop points at Airdrie, boy oh boy.

Barmby is a clutch player. His late winner at Hibs keeps us going.

Wins for Celtic and Rangers mean we go into the final day needing a minor miracle. An 8 goal swing against Rangers if we both win, 10 goals with Celtic if they lose.

Celtic’s task is not hard. Rangers may have a slightly tough time of it.

We do our bit, in convincing fashion too.

HIBS! We’re off to Edinburgh for a party. The 10 men do a sterling job.

Celtic obviously won to take their first league title since 1999.

5 in a row and out for Rangers. We need to find a way to take the next step.

Pavlov’s 37 in 42 shows he carried the goal scoring burden for a long time. Oakley did get 24 before he left.

Here’s the lads. The usual problems at wingback and defensive midfield averaging below 7.

Lovely Oakley got PFA Young Player of the Year. I hope he regrets leaving but somehow I don’t think he will. Michael Owen is cleaning up, hopefully he gets homesick.

Great news though, the capacity is going up again. We’re well off money wise but we spend way more than we bring in every month so the chance to earn more is welcome.

Well that ends another wild season in Cowdenbeath. For a while it looked like we were going to win the league and if Oakley had stayed, we really might of. When you’re getting 85 points and losing only 5 games, you are obviously doing something right but we’re just not as right as Rangers or Celtic. We’ve managed to topple one or the other…now we need to topple both. I’ll see you back here next week as we have another go, for now though I’m off to see who wants to come and help Stoichdog out. Bye for now.
