Welcome to the final update of the 04/05 season. If you’ve been following us on twitter, you’ll know this is going to be quite Darlington-centric. It’s been a fantastic end to the season and I’m looking forward to telling you about it. So, without further ado…
League Cup
As ever we start the finale with the pointless cup.
Seeing as Bristol City lost a bet and had to wear something horrific, it’s no wonder they didn’t score. Nigel Sedgemore playing a vintage 10 though. What an awful final, as a spectacle.
FA Cup
First up, we had to complete the semi final lineup
It’s an impressive result no matter which way you look at it, really. That meant a semi final showdown with Everton
A great win over Everton and that sees us into the FA Cup final. To see the live text of the final, click here. Otherwise, the result is below…
What a time to be alive! But that’s not all…
UEFA Cup
The semi finals saw us go up against Parma – unbelievable scenes when this happened in the second leg
The away goals rule taking us through – just.
Milan in the final then. Again, we covered this in depth in a live text here – otherwise it’s below
So we’ve done the double! What a season. Can it get better?
Champions League
Manchester United were left flying the flag for England in Europe’s elite competition
As you can see, they’ve flown all the way to the final, against Serie A winners Juventus
Paul Scholes, he scores goals. Can’t wait to play the Super Cup or whatever it is called against Man Utd
Premier League
As we’re in the form of our lives, we have an outside chance of getting into the 2nd Champions League spot. Going into the last game of the season, Man Utd have sewn up the title but 2nd is still up for grabs.
We have a tricky trip to Man City, whilst West Ham host Liverpool. We do our bit…
YES! Next stop, Champions League. To give you an idea of the end to the season we’ve had, check this out
When you consider results like this, I think it was just meant to be
Phew. Here’s how it all looked in the end
West Ham blow their chance to play in the big time, whilst Man Utd & Darlington both do doubles. Meanwhile, at the bottom:
It’s a very bad year for Yorkshire, with Barnsley, Hull and Huddersfield taking the drop. Le Tissier guided Arsenal to the Division one title, whilst Portsmouth won the playoffs. Beaten League Cup finalists Bristol City complete the promoted trio.
Time for some managerial changes
That’s happened before. Mind you, so has this
Turning down Man City & Chelsea? Chortle. Time for some awards
Michael Owen! He deserves that award. Dominic Whelan, of relegated Huddersfield, probably doesn’t.
I actually forgot I even had this guy
Anyway, there are no further noteworthy retirements and that brings the curtain down on the 04/05 season. The 05/06 season will culminate with the World Cup in England – will Feethams host a game? Probably not, but still, we’ll see you there!
Ha…Im still playing this game nearly twenty years later.
