7. A-Z of Football – Brescia (99/00) – Free transfer brigade

The A-Z challenge has taken Liam to Brescia, where a solid end to his first season there has got the locals hopeful of a promotion this season. Time to hit the transfer market…

Last update, we left it with me struggling to bring in any players on a free transfer, due to the terrible wages we can offer and I guess, our reputation since getting relegated. I have a lot of players to try and replace who have left on a free, so the finances aren’t great either. I did manage to pick up a couple of regens in the last update, so they are least will help.

I will be scouring the free transfer database trying to find those needle in a haystack players. Hopefully, these damn scouts can actually be of use to the club.

So where do we begin? I do sign some squad players, including one that I had already released. They are as follows;

I also sell a player to Roma, and bring in this absolute legend

Barcelona also splashing the cash

United also bring in a respected German international;

Few more come in for me, gone for some bigger names in football to try and push me up this season. I understand this story is a lot of screenshots so far, but that just seems to be the way it is on this update!

I also bring over a player on loan from my former club, who I also signed for them. He didn’t perform well in England, maybe he can prove the difference back over here!

The big club release clause comes into play again. However, I can’t really complain with the transfer fee, it will definitely help with some future arrivals

Manage to dispatch Monza of Serie C in the first round of the Coppa Italia, a competition that I am looking to go a little far in. However, who do we get in the second round? Parma. That’s right, Parma. The same Parma that boasts Hernan Crespo, Lilian Thuram, Fabio Cannavaro, Ibrahima Bakayoko, Dino Baggio and other players that we can only dream of owning. So, it looks like curtains for my Coppa Italia dreams! However, signing of the season? Maybe. He is 33 years old but no doubt he will have a major part in my season

His debut is indeed against Parma. Obviously won’t be expecting much! And that is the way it goes.

And just like that, we are out. However, success was never on the cards in this competition. We want the league, and we want to win. Promotion isn’t enough, I want that number 1 spot. However, unless we score more this will not be possible. I have Bernardi and Stoichkov, and 1 striker spot. I guess, it may be time to change that. If I am looking for that number 1, I need to play a more attacking game. That is proven as I lose my first game against Castel di Sangro. So I will use a favourite of the forum, the 2-3-1-2-2. It pays off, with a 5-0 result away from home!

Dave, thanks for the tactic mate.

This player just has no loyalty

I do pick up Nestor Sensini after he was released from Parma. He is 32 but he definitely has more left in the tank. Other than pace of course, slow as a tortoise in a wheelchair

The end of September brings the end of the update. I win the first manager of the month of the season, and we sit pretty in 4th position. This is very enjoyable!

See you next time!
