P12 – Binary Brilliance: Tackling CM2 97/98 with an AI Co-Pilot! | @tjmitcham1983

Welcome back to Lamas FC! Our human and AI co-managers finally have something going, sitting second after six games of season four. Let’s see how things progress…

The first round of the cup gives us a chance to hand debuts to regens Southall and Semedo. Both do just fine as we ease through 3-1.

It’s 1st v 2nd next up, and the Pie Daddy comes up trumps. He’s having one hell of a start to the season! Top we go for the first time ever.

After a poor first half against Chaves a triple change works wonders. Hagi’s first contribution of the season is a quickfire double. It’s only a point after a late Chaves equalizer, but we retain top spot.

Next up it’s a comfortable win against old rivals Rio Ave. Ohandjanian is someone we’ve tried to sign in the past, and he always seems to find a goal against us.

We’ve had this Polish international on our shortlist for a while, and he finally agrees to join as a backup CDM.

Pacos Ferreira come up with a cool million for our star right winger Tavares. He has been immense over the last two seasons but has only been used in a sub role this time around. Time to balance the books, Miguel!

It all kicks off down in Aves. They’re down to ten men within 13 minutes and take out the Pie Daddy for a month for good measure. We punish them with a five-goal showing.

We struggle past a resolute Ovarense. The 17-year-old midfield starlet grabs his first goal.

We ease through the second round of the cup. The third-round draw brings us our biggest test yet away at Benfica. On this form we may even have a chance against them!

Ace defender Sasi Kumar has decided now’s the time to rock the boat and move on to better things. Not ideal, but we have plenty of cover if he does leave. The signs have been there that he’s getting a bit flash for little old us.

Tilico puts 4th placed Alverca to the sword. His resurgence has been nothing short of spectacular.

Tavares only recently left us for £1m, and he takes just two minutes to remind us of what we’re missing. A 2-2 draw is a fair result.

After dropping points against Pacos, we take on his doubles partner Gil Vicente. Goal frenzy alert, Hickey even gets giddy and scores for both sides!

Diogo picks up his first MOTM in a long while. Miguel is still snubbed by the Portuguese FA for being a bit too ‘new school’.

Next up solicitor Festus Agu gives us the lead. Bruno thinks he has snatched a point for Malveira in the dying minutes, but the Pie Daddy fires home straight from the kickoff. What a win!

Wantaway rock star Sasi Kumar loses his head in a 2nd v 1st place battle, and it’s all downhill from there. An utter humbling, and a reminder to our lads that they’re beatable.

Sasi is left on the bench to lick his wounds as we finish up the first half of the season. It doesn’t impact our defensive rigidity; another clean sheet and a Willy Vincent strike sees us over the line.

We’re top at halfway!

Here’s Miguels’ conservative prediction on things to come….

Next week we’ll find out if these Lamas can finally get over the promotion line! There’s a small cup tie vs Benfica to look forward to as well.

Vamos!
