Hello, we’re now into Season 3 of my African Leeds challenge where I hope to win some sliverware and lead the Elland Road faithful into glorious european nights.
At the moment I’m more Dennis Wise than David O’Leary int he management stakes, no cup wins, no european football and two 9th place finishes to show for my troubles. We can score goals, but we can’t seem to defend them.
Gavin Nebbeling has had enough and retires from duty in the close season

Here’s how we’re lining up for the new season. Quinzinho,or The Quicker, knows where the goal is. I’ve brought in Adel Sellimi to play in the AM/FR role and Peter Oforiquaye has joined on line from South America of all places.

Well, sticking with the old faithful 2-3-1-2-2 pays dividends in our first league match, although a sending off and an injury, both on the left flank is far from useful.

Boro are up next on a sun-drenched midweek evening at the Riverside. Lacatus and Bakayoko trade insults on 68 minutes, but Iorfa’s first half goal seals the deal for us.

Villa at Elland road up next. The Quicker and Sellimi deliver the goods. Last season we conceded an average of two goals a game. This season it’s one in three…

Another game and another win, this time away to Leicester, but the injuries are starting to mount up. Could this be our year though, could it?

The old adage about speaking too soon hits me squarely in the chops. The Quicker and Rigobert looked to have salvaged a point until Sturridge knocks us back down.

Crazy game at Highbury. Arsenal lead 3-1 at half time, lose a man and then we get it back to 3-3, only for Christopher Wreh to break his African cousins hearts with a goal at the death.

Had my eye on this guy to shore up our defence, but he fancies Monaco to Leeds

Just a bad day at the office this one. After a bright start to the season, I’m worrying that we are capitulating all over again

What we need, is a nice easy game to get us back on track. Burnley and blog favourite Bjorn duly oblige.

It’s like a shot in the arm. May not be as many goals as the fans are used to but I’ll take each 1-0 win with great pleasure

The Quicker is at it again at home to Chelsea but blots his copy book by getting sent off in the second half, silly bugger.

Three games without our new talisman

Back to League Cup action and we sneak through against Burnely

It’s chaotic away to Barnsley and we only have ourselves to blame, giving away two penalties and getting another red card, when will we learn, eh? Adimole shows his worth in the absence of the suspended Quicker though.

Somethings got to give, maybe the key is to put some faith in the Bruce Grobelaar regen?

Well, it sort of worked. Sellimi has been a good signing, like a B&M Finidi George (or George Finidi) and Oforiquaye has been a great loan signing – although the more he scores, the more I dread him being recalled.

I seem to have impressed the Lille board. Thanks, but no thanks

Oforiquaye could have been a hattrick hero today but it was not to be

In the League Cup we overcome Boro in the 3rd round despite playing with ten men for 82 minutes. Why can’t we be this resolute more often?

My Grobelaar regen experiment is going well

That already brings us to the third way point of the season and unbelievably, after all that we are only four points off the top. We are, however, back to conceding an average of around two goals a game, which is an everlasting problem.

Next week – will we keep a clean sheet? Will Bruce Grobelaar the second turn out to be any good? Will the Quicker keep scoring? Please join me to find out.
