Bom Dia! and welcome along to another Friday at Molineux, where Nick’s defending Premiership champions haven’t had the best start to season ten domestically, but they’ve been taking full advantage of a favourable Champions League group, so there is hope. Let the fun resume…
The title of champions is certainly weighing heavy on our shoulders at the minute. We’ve had no problem scoring goals as usual, but just can’t seem to hold onto a lead to save our lives, and have drawn almost half our games so far. Surely this can’t carry on for much longer…

We start this week’s action at home to Ipswich, where things look to be getting a whole lot worse when we go behind on 20 minutes, but then Amaral single-handedly flips the game on its head to turn my frown upside down…

Ama picks up where he left off by opening the scoring against Wigan in the League Cup. Naturally we throw the lead away, but super sub José Futre comes on and grabs the game by the scruff of the neck to fire us through…

Our reward (if you can call it that) for winning is a trip to Anfield. Fan-f*cking-tastic.

Draw number six of the season comes away at one of our favourite places to visit, lovely Highfield Road. Only the fact that we have to play almost the entire second half with ten men makes this result remotely acceptable…

We start the second half of Champions League group games away at Ferencvaros. It’s a much closer affair this time round, and Futre shows that he’s Hungary for goals as we come from behind to win for the third time in four games.

The kid definitely looks like he has potential, and continues his fine form in a hard-fought home win over Middlesbrough, despite us having ten shots on target and their keeper having the game of his life as per usual…

I’ve been used to more than my fair share of ups and downs during this blog, and once again, just as we appeared to be on an upward trajectory over the last few matches, good old Everton bring us back down to earth. F*ck off.

We quickly put that momentary blip behind us though, and take our anger out on Maccabi Tel-Aviv. Of course we go behind first, but Mario Raúl levels it on a rare start, and Figo’s experience and guile eventually rescue us…

Coelho finally wakes up from his early season slumber with his first goals in eight games, and Figo nets for a second game running as we stroll to victory at home to Man City. Welcome back, Carlos, it’s nice to have you back with us.

The balls drop kindly for us in the FA Cup draw, and see us open this season’s campaign against pre-Reynolds/McElhenney Wrexham…

Meanwhile in the League Cup, we’re holding Liverpool in their own backyard, but we’ve not really threatened, and I’m just starting to write down my five penalty takers when Coelho wins it two minutes from time. Scenes.

It doesn’t get any easier for us in the quarter-finals, I think we must have used up all our draw luck with our Champions League group.

We’re giving West Ham a right hammering but unfortunately can’t turn our dominance into goals, and we end up paying the price for our wastefulness as The Irons strike twice late on to rob us of what would’ve been a useful point.

Mario becomes the ninth Chic to flee the nest on loan. Go forth and develop, young fledgling.

Finishing off the Champions League group games is a trip to Austria, where we would have gotten away with six wins out of six if it wasn’t for those Moedling kids. It matters not though, and we’re into to the quarter-finals…

Where we draw Schalke. It’s not the best draw we could have hoped for looking at the rest of the teams, but with Barca and Real Madrid still very much alive, it’s certainly not the worst…

After a quick flight back from Austria, we’re back to the domestic action, and we’re back on track after battling to a much-needed win at home to third-placed Leeds via an unlikely hero in right-back, Paulo Campos. Go on lad!

And then the poor kid goes and injures himself in training and is now out for three months…

League leaders Leicester are hoping to win their first top flight title nine years earlier than their real life Ranieri-led triumph, and the fantastic Foxes sweep us aside with ease, as Doctor Proctor gives us a shower of pain…

When things aren’t going great, we can always rely on Barnsley to provide some reassurance that everything is going to be ok, and after going in front, they allow Rui Costa and Coelho to hit doubles and lift our spirits once more…

Last up this week are Villa. They beat us three times last season, so you can imagine my delight when we absolutely destroy them, with the strike duo running riot, and Vitinha marking his return from injury with a brace…

And the good news to end this week continues after a reasonable set of festive results as I secure my first manager of the month award of the season. Things are definitely on the up…

So after all of that, we’ve climbed three places up to eighth, and only six points separate us from third spot. I’m used to this team being slow starters by now, but winning three of our last four games and scoring ten goals in the process is certainly an encouraging sign.
Our next three games are Sunderland away, Fulham at home and Sheffield Wednesday away, so we could probably do with getting some points from those if we’re to climb any further up the table and get anywhere near those European spots for next season…

That’s your lot for this week. Do come back next week where it’ll be cup games aplenty, as we face Wrexham in the League Cup, Arsenal in the FA Cup, and there’s also that Champions League quarter-final with Schalke to look forward to in amongst an important run of games in the league. See you then. Adeus!
