Celta Vigo 1997/98 – A Secret Santa Blog Part One | @KingOfTheRooks

Well, here we are. The annual treat of being inspired by a mystery kit for our Secret Santa and I have landed in Balaidos with Celta Vigo (thanks Dave). But what is the approach, well, in real life Os Celestes finished 6th in La Liga and reached the round of 16 in the Copa del Rey. The league finish was their best attempt in just over quarter a century. My purpose in this blog will be to better that performance with EXACTLY the same players at my disposal. So let the blog see the squad:

A Royale Mess – A Blog Squad Tale | Part Ten: Bare Nesetities | @KingOfTheRooks

Hallo, and welcome back! More time to see how our managers react and adapt to their new signings. One thing for sure, if the season so far is anything to go by, it will be goals galore.

First up it is league action. Matt’s AIK are at home to my own Kobenhavn. Games have been quite back and forth and high scoring so let’s see if that changes.

The half time introduction of the secret 6th Simpsons family member makes for a nervy second half but the Wale makes his mark and Kobenhavn come away with a victory. Our Ljung’s were bursting.

A Royale Mess – A Blog Squad Tale | Part Nine: Re-Brannded | @KingOfTheRooks

Hallo, and welcome back! We’ve had the transfer window which was great fun and now its time for the managers to see if their choices have helped or hindered them.

As ever in Scotland, first up, it’s the cup! A battle between newly refurbished Ross and manager holiday Zak. It looks like its headed for extra time that nobody sitting screensharing post 9pm on a Tuesday wants, and thankfully (for Ross) new boy Karl-Oscar hammers in a winner.

A Royale Mess – A Blog Squad Tale | Part Eight: The Window of Opportunity | @KingOfTheRooks

Welcome back again! This week’s tale is of the transfer window. Here is a customary reminder of who was allowed to sign how many.

Deano, Nathan and Zak will get 1 transfer, Phil, myself, Ross and Rob will be allowed 3 signings, whilst Dave, Matt and Nick will be afforded 5 new players.

So, who did everyone target. A reminder that everyone was allowed to select any Scandinavian players who began the season at Scandinavian clubs but were not already assigned to one of our teams.

Each manager could provide a list of up to 16 targets in preference order. The draft would see preference go to the lowest ranked team where a tie in selection was made. Any teams tied on points, I’d spin the wheel of misfortune and see who misses out.

A Royale Mess – A Blog Squad Tale | Part Seven: Zambianavia | @KingOfTheRooks

Welcome back one and all! Here we are again in the Scottish Division Three, also known as the Blog Squad League. We’re approaching the end of September, so the gents have been pondering their transfer targets. Can anyone improve their position before the window?

We have three sets of league fixtures this week to bring us to the end of September. And first up it’s Matt’s AIK vs. Rob’s Gods. I don’t know what frequency Kenneth is tuned into but that is a match winning performance if there ever was one from the 18-year-old.

A Royale Mess – A Blog Squad Tale | Part Six: Talking Tactics | @KingOfTheRooks

Welcome back everyone. We’re taking a break from the action of the blog league to take a look at what tactics are being employed by each of the teams and have a closer look at some of the key performers in each team.

AIK – Matt

Matt has probably pulled a decent side from the hat, but not a lot of depth on the face of what we have seen so far.

Tactically Matt has chosen a 2-3-3-2 formation which is focused on splitting the pitch into two basic core elements of defence and attack. It should allow you to overload the front with AM’s or FW’s but the match engine will still recognise a healthy bucket of defensive bodies.

As ever, it’s a Direct style to get up the pitch quickly and efficiently but you need the personal up top to be able to manage that style. Matt has conceded 4 goals per game, so perhaps having nothing in the middle is a problem?

A Royale Mess – A Blog Squad Tale | Part Five: On Brannd | @KingOfTheRooks

Hallo, hej, hello! Welcome back. Last time out Zak and his Malmo side had managed to break into the top 2 positions. Which has been quite the shock given Malmo were probably not one of the pre-draw favourites. But they have proved reliable and consistent so far.

First up, thankfully, it’s the league.

A Royale Mess – A Blog Squad Tale | Part Four: Brann Mjelt Under Pressure | @KingOfTheRooks

Hallo, hej, hello! Welcome back to what could be described as the most exciting Championship Manager experience at this exact time of day on this page. And even that is possibly too high praise.

Cup games? Did someone say cup games. Love a cup. Ross gets a really easy draw.

Enough of that, we finally have a league game, and it is myself vs. Matt, FCK vs. AIK.

A Royale Mess – A Blog Squad Tale | Part Three: All Brann, No Cap | @KingOfTheRooks

Hallo, hej, hello! Welcome back to Scandinavia’s finest ruined by 10 stupid men. Last time out we managed to first game of the league having been peppered with cup games, and I suspect this latest post will be much the same. Such is life in Scottish Division Three.

Early doors, Rob (Stromsgodset) and Deano (IFK Gothenburg) appear to have drawn the longest straws, but it is early days. A reminder of the table:
