14. A-Z of Football – Chelsea (00/01) – Trophies & Transfers

We ended the last episode just before our big final against Manchester United. We all know what United can do, they are strong, they are formidable and they can smash and annihilate you. The strength in depth of their squad, really shows.

What a squad and what a team. A few players out of contact that I could hope to pick up at some point aswell, such as Phil Neville and Roy Keane, and even the legend John Curtis. Not feeling too confident moving into the final. Compared to my limited squad, the strength may just be too much.

We set up as follows. I do like the team I have built here

So, the match starts. It is a pretty even game however, but Guy Poyet is the man that gives us the lead!

Second half begins with the hope we can push on through. Dario Simic comes on for Gil Baiano at right back just to freshen the team up a little. Also coming on in the 73rd minute is Jody Morris for Graeme Le Saux (Sonksen to RB and Simic to LB) in an otherwise uneventful match to that point. We hang on however, and the league cup is ours!!

Aizkorreta picks up MOM, and it is now true we will be moving to a D club for next year. Happy days, a short stint at Chelsea. I will finish off the season however (Unless a D team comes up early).

It might be cheating a little bit, but I will put Knutsen up for sale when a D team comes available, just in case!

Back to the league however and we still have an outside chance of winning it. Liverpool are flying, so I can only hope to keep up the pressure. Everton stand in our way however, but with no big names to note, I hope that we can push through.

Push through is an understatement, as Martin Knutsen again bags a hat trick to see them off. I can only imagine Erling Haaland is the regen of Martin Knutsen in real life!

The table is looking even tighter now!

It is straight into our next game however, away to Leeds who are in 12th. Good news though is Liverpool are away to Man Utd, so we can either catch up, or pull away with a victory.

It isn’t to be. Jan Sonksen red card doesn’t help us, and neither does Neil Alexander in the Leeds goal. Another instance of the goalkeeper curse. The only hope is that Liverpool and Man Utd somehow draw.

Thank you CM gods!

No time to rest, away at White Hart Lane this time. The games are coming thick and fast and if there is one person that can save us, it is Martin Knutsen.

Ok, the actual saviour is Sol Campbell who scores the winner, but look who gets MOM once more? Why does this keep happening to me? However, a win is a win and

WE ARE TOP! But for how long? Man Utd secure a win whilst Liverpool draw, leaving the title race wide open with 5-7 games left. It is out of our hands as we all sit on 64 points whilst both Liverpool and United have 1 and 2 games in hand respectfully.

Saying that, our next game is against Man Utd. This could be the make or break of our title race right here. Losing, and I feel like we may be out of it.

Is a draw just delaying the inevitable? I don’t know. Both teams now have 2 games in hand over me, so it is still out of our hands for now.

Priorities for United may be elsewhere however as they are in the Champions League Final. We can only hope their priorities are there! Back to the games however, with an away game to Wimbledon who are in the bottom half. We need to win all of our games to stand a chance in the league I believe.

An easy win this time, but again, the opposition goalkeeper picks up a 9 rating. Is this how its going to go for the rest of the season? Good news however, as I see this following the game;

But what about Man Utd? How did they get on?

They win. Damn it. Just slip up United, come on! I do pick up manager of the month for April, but I am not really bothered by that. I just want to win!

WHAT! GET IN THERE RONNY JOHNSEN. A Johnsen OG see’s them lose at home to Coventry. Liverpool get a 3-0 victory however, it is so tight right now!

Tough game up next though, as we face 5th placed Newcastle. The are theoretically still in the title race, but not close enough. The battle for 4th between them and Arsenal is also looking pretty tasty.

Thank the lord! A tough win, as Shay Given is another one to add to the 9 list. Zenoni picks up a 10 however, strangely, with 1 assist. He did win 17 headers though! What about United and Liverpool?

Man United win, but Liverpool lose. I feel that it is now a 2 team race. 2 games left for us and our run is looking good! Away at Leicester, whilst Man Utd are at home against bottom of the league Aston Villa. Come on Dwight, score some goals!

We do our part, but do Aston Villa do us a favour? Ged Harford almost makes the 9 club but just misses out. Aston Villa don’t help this time as they fall 2-0 to Man Utd at Old Trafford. Our last game is against Barnsley who I feel we should beat pretty easily, but Man Utd will also feel the same about Blackburn. What I didn’t see, is Man Utd did play their game in hand and beat my former team Arsenal. Thanks Arsenal.

So, last day of the season with the league looking like below. It is our of our hands and in Blackburn’s hands. Please Micky Adams, please Soren Andersen, please Sergio Berti, please Andrew Mainwaring, please Peter Schmeichel, PLEASE BLACKBURN!!!

We do our part

NO BLOODY WAY

WE HAVE DONE IT!!! PETER SCHMEICHEL LISTENED, SERGIO BERTI LISTENED! MICKY ADAMS LISTENED. THANK YOU

Small consolation for United is they still have the Champions League final to fall back on. I didn’t need to win this league, as the League Cup was enough for me to move on, but my fantastic form has carried us through. I love this tactic! Now I can continue on through until a D team comes available.

Juventus win the Cup Winners Cup against Real Sociedad at St.Jakob in Basel

Kevin Keegan moves into Europe

Man Utd consolation prize is that they win the FA Cup, dominating my former Arsenal with ease.

Followng that, they also win the Champions League. Happy for them!

And that will finish the season, this update, and my time at Chelsea! Onto the next one. See you there
