Stuttgarter Kickers: Road to Tokyo Part 11 | @Winkveron

The 02/03 season got off to a decent start last week for Dan but can Stuttgart Kickers maintain that momentum as the winter rolls around?

A 2-2 draw in Glasgow in the second leg sets up a, err, glamourous fourth-round tie.

First host second, and we send Dortmund packing.

We get the away goal in Hamburg.

And secure a massive win in Munich.

Going into the winter break we’re 9 points clear with a game in hand.

Before we put our feet up, though, it’s a small matter of the UEFA Cup. After Theo’s 84th-minute equaliser we look to be going out on away goals, until McCarthy pops up. We draw Bordeaux in the last 8.

Two league wins after the winter break sends us 14 points clear with just 12 points to go. We can’t let this slip, surely?

One foot in the semis.

And the lead is up to 16 points.

We progress to the last four in style.

We beat Roma at home…

Then 3-1 in the Stadio Olimpico.

Another all-German clash awaits.

Massive win in the derby.

With four games to spare. We’ve done it!

Bayern break our hearts in extra time of the UEFA Cup final.

But I’m delighted with the dominant league campaign. The progress chart shows how consistent we’ve been.

This never ceases to amaze me. Of the lowest two average attendances, we finish top whilst Uerdingen finish rock bottom of the league table. This highlights our efficiency.

Wes continues to smash it, and is a candidate for our player of the year.

As is this guy. Look at those goals/assists.

Benni & I stick our tuxedos on and walk away with gongs from the German football awards bash.

Winning the Bundesliga means another objective is ticked off the list. Still outstanding is the European Cup and then, the Intercontinental Cup. Losing two UEFA Cup finals has been tough to take but it’s proven that we compete on the continent.
