Geordie Score – Part 2 : Blog on the Tyne | @Matt_C_Wills

Happy Thursday! Here’s Matt with episode 2 of his new series where Newcastle’s squad is exclusively South American…

Hello and welcome back to La-Toon America (not sure that will catch on). Anyway, incase you missed part one last week, Freddy Shepherd has engineered a South American revolution on Tyneside, spearheaded by young Colombian maestro, Julio Geordio.

We’ve patched together a squad to entertain the Toon Army, but all things being equal, we’re already eating Man Utd’s dust….

We are however in the Champions League group stages and up next is a trip to Turin, but our crew of Latin Lovers with a bench full of greys succumb to a Uruguyan strike from Fonseca.

Geordie Score – Part 1 : New Beginnings | @Matt_C_Wills

In 1997, Sir John Hall passed Newcastle United chairmanship to Freddy Shepard. Freddy, keen to make his mark on the club, had watched over the years how Newcastle had been a trailblazer for South American footballers, from George and Ted Robledo,  Marindinha, Tino Asprilla, south American stars have lit up St James Park.

Freddy has released all the first team squad, lobbied government to abolish work permits for players from South American and after watching re-runs of the Henry Enfield Show, signed me a young Colombian Striker called Julio Geordio.

AFC United : Part 35 – From Brown To Black | @Matt_c_Wills

All good things come to an end and after 35 quality episodes, this is our last visit to AFC United. Matthew…

We’ve reached the end of our long and winding road following the fortunes of Alex Ferguson’s Cast Offs. We signed off Season 16 in style with the proper treble of League, FA Cup and European glory.

We said goodbye to fan favourite David Brown as the close season updates rolled, he’d passed the 450 goal mark, helping land more trophies for the cabinet and told me he was off to pursue a career in podiatry. I’m not ashamed to admit, I shed a tear.

However, Danny Hall, Alex Notman, Terry Cooke and Richie Wellens were still hanging around and I wondered whether ‘one more season’ might be worth it, and it was, but in a completely different way to before.

Firstly, we had some retirement shaped holes to fill. I quickly found the regens of Andrew Duncan…

AFC United – Part 34 : The Winner Takes It Hall | @Matt_C_Wills

Happy Monday! Here’s Matt twisting all of our melons with the end of another AFC United season and the race for records is on…

449. That’s how many goals David Brown has scored for AFC United.

It’s our final season with the guys Fergie deemed surplus to requirements (well, mostly. I have Rio Ferdinand but he’s been shut out by Danny Hall). Anyway, we left things last week having hauled ourselves to the top of the table and with interest still in the FA Cup and Champions League.

AFC United – Part 33: Matt_C_TheFinishLine | @Matt_C_Wills

Our time with Matt is coming to an end. In this save anyway, I don’t mean that to sound sinister. Happy Monday everybody

We’re reaching the end of the road of this fun experiment into the parallel lives of Man Utd hereos and their team mates who never quite made it. We’ve won the lot, but our aim now is to get Danny Hall to 800 club games and David brown to 450 club goals, but is time running out?

Our league form is patchy, so one more league title might be beyond us unless we have an upturn in performances soon

AFC United – Part 32: Boxall Conference | @Matt_C_Wills

Happy Matt Monday! We’re back to the three parter seasons so what are AFC United up to this week?

Well, the CM3 experiment was an eye opener, but it’s Monday and it’s back to AFC United and CM9798, where my heart still resides.

Season 16 is likely to be the last season, I want to get Danny Hall to 800 hundred games and David Brown to 450 club goals before I hang up this save, so I’ve decided to go back to the three parts to a season format. Shall we?

Here’s our squad for the start of the season. 10 original players, with the rest being ex-Utd regens. Lots of people are wanted, Rio’s just unhappy. Jesper Blomqvist left to join Notts County in search of regular football having been frozen out by Welsh Parrish, but not much other activity beyond that.

AFC United – Part 31: Just Can’t Get Enough | @Matt_C_Wills

Happy Monday and indeed happy November. Here’s Matt to kick the month off…

November. Where has this year gone? Talking of time flying, we’re into season 15 of AFC United’s adventures. We’re league champions but lost out in Europe to Gerry Francis and his AC Milan team last season.

The boys are getting old and the regens are coming to the fore, so there’s only a few seasons left in the legs of Hall, Brown, Notman and co…so whilst we’ll rattle through Season 15 today, we’ll revert to the 3 part format for next season (if that’s ok Dave?).

Anyway, not much transfer action. Despite our trophy haul over the years, a stadium that still only holds just over 25,000 and our perilous bank balance, there’s not much money flying around anyway.

15 years into this save, the biggest thing I’ve noticed is no-one scores a lot of goals anymore, not even David Brown…

Case in point, a narrow season opener in the Charity Shield

AFC United – Part 30: Get Brown On It | @Matt_C_Wills

Here to kick off half term week is Matt. He’s off trophy hunting with AFC United again…

It’s half term across the country, but we’re getting towards the end times for AFC United. I’m about to guide you through Season 14 and with most of our original players heading towards their mid-thirties, can they still summon the AFC spirit for trophy glory?

We’ve got a few regens in to balance the average squad age out

Boxall is Paul Scholes, Brian Sampson is Becks reborn and Darren Parrish is a welsh wing wizard with a passing resemblance to Giggsy. They’ll off out on loan to develop their young talents.

Meanwhile, the old bods set the standard with a narrow Charity Shield win

AFC United – Part 29: Hall and The Gang | @Matt_C_Wills

It’s Monday which means we get another season of Matt’s AFC United. Can they get some of their titles back?

Hello, and welcome back to your weekly installment of seasonal action from Hall and The Gang. Last time out we rattled through season 12 and picked up the weakest of trebles – the Charity Shield, World Club Cup and European Super Cup.

We’re relegated to the Uefa Cup for this season and will be missing Champions League monies – not that there are many ex Utd regens clamouring to join us.

AUGUST

Anyway, on with Season 13 and the Charity Shield carries on without us and Oldham Athletic fan Dave Mathieson wins it for FA Cup holders Derby, giving new manager David Beckham his first taste of silverware.

AFC United – Part 28: Ta Ra Fergie | @Matt_C_Wills

Merry Monday to you all! Here’s Matt to kick off your week with AFC United.

Good Monday morning to you. A lot has happened in the north east in football terms in the past week – I don’t even know if by the time you read this United stalwart Steve Bruce will still be in a job, as close as he is to 1,000 games as a manager.

Nor am I sure I’ll get David Brown near 1,000 goals – there’s no marking the keeper tactic on CM9798, at least one hasn’t been invented yet….

Anyway, we finished Season 11 as champions of England and Europe, with aging winger Ryan Giggs netting the winner against Bayern Munich. While the old timers are winding down after 12 seasons, the young regens are finding their feet in the team and we bring in some new, but familiar additions. Sampson is Graeme Tomlinson reborn, Bryan Essandoh is Keith Gillespie – and with a surname like that I’m expecting some dramatic cup goals, while Ken Gallen is Keano as a youngster.
