Monday Night Football

Hello and welcome back to another episode of Monday Night Football with CM9798. This week we’ll be taking a look at Sunday’s Spurs vs. Man City match. You voted, it was tight, so we flipped a coin the good old-fashioned way.

Last week we predicted a 5-0 victory for Liverpool away at Wolves. We got the result right, just way off on the score. Another one we’ll take!

Back to the match in question, Pep’s Man City have been lacklustre by their own standards this season. Meanwhile, ‘the special one’ is having a bit of a tough start to life at Tottenham. Last time out these two delivered a 2-2 draw back in August.

Line-ups:

Pep will probably fancy his chances against his reoccurring nemesis Jose and will probably stick to his tried and trusted philosophy. P.S. Ederson has the flu.

Meanwhile I’d expect a bit more of a pragmatic approach from Jose with a 4-3-2-1 looking to break into City on the counter.

Kick-off:

We’re out of the block at *checks where I am* Wembley (apparently, I guess the new stadium didn’t make it in time for the update). A quick start as Aguero latches onto a through ball from Rhodri and puts it beyond Lloris.

Within seconds of the re-start, Alli catches Bravo asleep with a rocket he just didn’t see coming. He didn’t even move. Not long later Lloris brings down Aguero and he tucks away the penalty. Half-time and City lead.

Lamela the key man for Spurs winning the ball back and making key passes.

Meanwhile for City, it’s that man Aguero.

Second Half:

It’s that man Lamela starts the fight back on 54 minutes as yet again, Bravo is caught napping. He then feeds Son a through ball and he buries it in the top corner out of poor Bravo’s reach. A late rally from City is repelled by Lloris and Spurs are victorious.

Now that is a result that Mourinho would love against Pep however, it would probably have been a different story with Ederson in the sticks. We’ll see soon. (Didn’t mean to start Son up top, it was a mistake that I didn’t notice until later on…maybe Jose is reading this?)

Back in Time:

Again, we take a look at what would have been back in 1997 had Premier League Spurs taken on a Kinkladze inspired Man City. Here are the line-ups back in the day.

The Result:

In the end, a man of the match display from Kinkladze (in my eyes anyway), getting all three assists helped City turn Spurs over. In reality their season wouldn’t see any such glamour.

And that’s a wrap. We hope you’ve enjoyed todays episode of Monday Night Football we’re getting closer each time! Keep an eye for our poll as we’ll leave it up to you again next week!
