Happy Tuesday! It’s time for a new season in Naples – here’s Nathan…

Hello everyone and welcome back to Naples for season 4. Last season was our most successful and yet are most heart breaking as we missed out on the league title by 3 points and losing the Champions League Final. Diego and the boys are back and thirsty for success so we go again.

First game up then is an easy away win in the Faroe Islands in our Champions League 1st round game. Imbriani breaks the deadlock when he hits home Maradona’s blocked effort. Maradona takes 5 minutes to get his goal when he breaks free and megs the keeper. A comfortable start to the season.

Second leg done and we are safely through to the group stages. Maradona is in fine form grabbing 2 goals in the first half. Imbriani adds a third shortly after half time before Reynatugvu grabs a consolation for the visitors. Bellucci grabs a very late 4th to get him up and running for the season.

Wow – What an awful group!

Another cup game, this time in the Coppa Italia and it’s a massive bore draw! We have the better chances in the second half but we are very wasteful. A replay certainly won’t help the fixture list.

We finally have a league game and it’s a boring 0-0. Draws killed us last season so to start with one this season isn’t the best start. Bellucci is injured for 2 weeks so we really need our other strikers to step up whilst he is away.

Back to European action now and it’s a great start and it’s all thanks to Diego. He gives us an early lead when he hits home Bellucci’s blocked effort. 10 minutes later Vink hits the post and Leonhardsen hits it first time into the bottom corner. It’s an open game and in the 74th minute Maradona hits a wonder strike from nowhere which flies into the back net with James stood still. He gets his hattrick at the death when he taps home Beto’s low cross. Great start to the group stage.

Another draw in the league. This is becoming a real issue. Fiorentina take the lead when Oliveira slips through and curls a beauty past Meier. We push and get rewarded with an equaliser in the 2nd half when Bellucci slides in Cavaco who blasts his shot into the roof of the net. No one was stopping that.

Another game against Fiorentina and after 2 draws we finally grab a win which sees us through to the next round of the Coppa Italia. It’s Oliveira again who opens the scoring with another lovely finish right into the corner. We get level from a corner which Buonocore floats in and Jorge heads it past Tambellini. Both teams search for a winner but it’s us who find it and it’s star man Bellucci who wraps his foot around Beto’s cross and it flies in.

3 league games. 3 draws. It’s hard to be critical because Fiorentina and Juventus are top teams but if we want to win silverware we have to beat these teams. Juventus take the lead deservedly when Baron fires the ball home after a real scrap in the box. Bellucci then equalises with another wonder strike which again leaves the keeper rooted to the spot. It’s really a good point against the champions but we need more going forward.

A classic game in Europe as we edge past Monaco. Ikpeba gives Monaco the lead with a shot from nothing and it flies past Meier. Bellucci then equalises after a deflected shot causes mayhem in the box. Ikpeba rises highest at a corner and powers a header into the corner. We equalise straight away though thanks to some good work by Diego who lays it off for Longo to hit first time. We take the lead for the first time in the second half when Coridon storms through midfield and slots it past his French team mate Barthez. We hang on for a big 3 points.

We finally get a win in the league! I didn’t think it was going to happen but finally in the second half Coridon is played through and he dinks it over Mondini. We have a few scares but manage to come away with all 3 points.

Another league win here but we were so ill disciplined and it nearly cost us. Bellucci gives us the lead when Beto breaks free down the right and crosses for Bellucci to side foot the ball home from close range. Maradona doubles our lead in the second half with one of his dazzling runs and easy finish. We make a few mistakes and one leads to Chianese breaking free and getting a goal back to make it a nervy finish but we get the win.

We are 9th but we have 2 games in hand over most. We have started slowly in the league but we are getting going. We are top of our Champions League group as well with 6 points, 2 points ahead of Barcelona.
