The Blog Squad FC – Part 1 | @RossBell1984

Welcome! Here in his new hump day home is Ross Bell, with something completely different. He’s been busy in the editor setting up a whole new club based around the writing team on this very site…and some friends we’ve made along the way. Here’s the big man to explain!

Here we go again, after taking on standard seasons on this blog before with two Leeds saves and Liverpool save it was time for me to take to the editor and keep up with my fellow members of the Blog Squad.

The idea being to create all of us and transform a Division 3 club into Blog Squad FC, I chose my hometown team of Mansfield to be wiped from existence and to be replaced with TBS FC. Let’s meet our players

Goalkeeper – Barry Combe, now Barry is not strictly a member of TBS but he became something of a legend in out CLM save being run by Nick. The young Scotland stopper will be our first choice number 1.

Centre Backs – Myself and Andrew Chapman (@Kingoftherooks) when I created all the players I didn’t set any positions, I left everything to random from attributes to positions so myself and Andrew will be the rocks at the back for TBS

Defensive Midfielders – Dean Emson, Rob Tait & Nick Rowe. For my formation to work I need 3dms and whilst Dean and Nick aren’t strictly DM’s Dean being a versatile defender and Nick being a ML they will both work either side of out and out DM Rob Tait.

CM – Matt Wills. I only need one CM for this formation but the editor gave me two, we will come on to the other in a second but Matt will be my lynchpin in central midfield.

Attacking Midfielders – Zak Brockman (AMR) Nathan Gent (AMC) & Philip Verbist (AML) a lot of pressure on these boys as they will need to create lots for the 1 striker! Both Zak and Philip are versatile and can alternate wings whilst Nath is actually my other CM but looks better suited to AMC than Matt.

Striker – Dave Black. The big man himself has the role of banging in the goals with some excellent attributes to lead the line we look in good shape.

So into division 3 we go looking to batter out way through teams on the way to the title.

The first game in Blog Squad history is away at the always dangerous Barnet Sean Devine gets his customary goal but goals for Dave, Nath, Dean and a brace from Matt are enough to seal us a comprehensive 5-2 win on the road.

The first ever game at home ends with us being totally CM’d, encouraging stats though we appear to be dominating.

A tricky start to the season on paper isn’t quite that tricky in reality. Hull faced the sword with goals from Dave, Myself and blog squad favourites Tomlinson and Twiss, I had to fill in the squad somehow so tried to get as many favs as possible. You’ll even notice a cheeky sub spot being given to Barry Venison.

Home form seems to be difficult to come by as we were 2-0 andn then 3-1 up in this game before throwing it completely away. Zak bags his first of the season however.

Back on the road and back in the goals, Zak makes it two in two there’s no stopping Dave who bags a couple and Tomlinson chips in with a 4th.

Finally a win at home and a comfortable one at that. Zak is on fire with 3 in 3 Matt gets his 3rd of the season with Tomlinson baging another 2 goals.

A disappointing 1-0 loss away at Exeter followed, We couldn’t seem to take the chances in this one.

How do you follow up a poor away performance, You play Rotherham and smash 6 past them. 2 for me, 2 fo Wills and 1 a piece for Tomlinson and Twiss. Rout

an Away trip to Darlo next and another comprehensive victory Zak, Matt, Dave and Graeme with the goals only let down by myself getting a straight red card when we were 4-0 up

We have added to the squad with Alan Pardew, the Micker & Steve Hodge.

That’s where I will leave things this week. We are in the top 3 with us and Orient being the early pace setters.

Until next time.
