Bottom’s Up – Part 6: Old Firm Madness! | @FMCM_FC

Good morning! It’s good to be back in the swing of things – please give Nathan a big welcome back with the Bottom’s Up save. The leagues have been turned upside down but can anybody stop Rangers going straight back to the top?

Hello everyone and welcome back to the upside down world for Season 2 with Rangers. In the last update we go promoted to Division 2 along with Celtic and in England Man Utd, Newcastle, Arsenal and Liverpool got promoted to Division 2 in England. Else where Hartlepool won the Premier League and Alloa grabbed the Scottish Premier League. Here I believe the European competitions will be all over the place given all the usual suspects where in the bottom leagues.

Being in the lower leagues means 1st round games in the cups. What an opener for us here as we wipe the floor with Old Firm rivals Celtic. Fitzy starts in place of the injured Van Vossen and repays his call up with a 1st half hattrick. His first comes in the 7th minute when a freekick causes havoc and Fitzy lashes it home. His second comes from a lovely through ball by Cavaco and his hattrick 3 mins before half time comes from a flick on by Negri. In the second half Fitzy tees up Negri who hits a cracker from 25yards to seal a 4-0.

First game in Division 2 and we beat Partick Thistle 2-0. Fitzy gives us the lead after half an hour after a scramble in the box. In the second half Cavaco seals the win turning home Negri’s through ball.

Scottish Coca-Cola Cup 2nd round went from comfortable to uneasy in the second half. Fitzy carries on his good form by slotting home a 27th minute penalty. In the second half Gazza fizzes a corner in which Porrini glances into the top corner. Fitzy adds a third then all hell breaks lose. Craig Winter finds himself free at the back post to nod home Cowdenbeath’s 1st. Then Wright wipes him out and gets sent off and Winter converts the penalty. We hang on but we shouldn’t have needed to.

The League Challenge Cup is for all teams outside the Premier League and is something i’m not overly fussed about. The 2nd string make light work of Division 3 St Johnstone. Ally McCoist grabs 2 goals from rebounds on either side of half time.

Poor showing from us here. We aren’t at our fluid best. We should take the lead several times and have a goal ruled out for offside. Tom Brown then scores after a great pass from Norman McWhirter. It’s looking like a loss until the 90th minute when Gazza picks up Van Vossen’s pass and megs Alan Combe to rescue a point for us.

Leyton Orient get a tasty group for their efforts last season.

Hartlepool have half a chance of getting through this one I think.

Alloa get a harsh draw and a thumping against FC Porto in the first round.

We ease through to the next round round of the Scottish Coca-Cola Cup. Gazza opens the scoring in midfield, drives forward and powers past Trinder from 20 yards. Just before half time Colin Pates hits a worldie from nowhere to level the scores at half time. In the second half we turn the screw and score 2 goals in 5 minutes to kill the game and advance.

A good away win and a good clean sheet. Our goal comes in the second half when Laudrup threads a tidy ball through the Hamilton defence and Van Vossen is there to get on the end of it and slide it past Ferguson in goal.

A fantastic away win here as we dismantle unbeaten Morton. Van Vossen grabs a hattrick in a perfect 30 minutes in the first half with a left foot, right foot and headed finish. Fitzy grabs 2 goals either side of the half to make it 5-0. Roddie grabs a late consolation for Morton.

Ok. What a completely stupid game! 8-5. Literally no defending involved at all. Celtic take the lead but we respond with 2 goals from Negri. Celtic then equalise but Negri smashes us back in front. In the second half Celtic equalise again. This time we punish them though with 3 quick goals from Gazza, Van Vossen & Cavaco. Negri grabs his 4th before Kennedy grabs his 2nd for Celtic. Gazza smashes in a late 2nd of his own to make it 8-5. Ridiculous!

Not sure how to follow that so we will leave it there for this week. Here is a round up of how the world is looking.

We top the table unbeaten along with St Mirren who we drew with earlier doors.

In the Scottish Premier League newly promoted Clydebank are setting the pace.

Liverpool and Man Utd are going toe to toe after promotion to Division 2.

In the Premier League newly promoted Preston are turning the clock back to Sir Tom Finney’s day when they where a force to be reckoned with.

Extremely early days in Italy.

So there we are. Join me next time to see if we can progress in the cups and take a firm handle on the league.

Until then, as always, Bottom’s Up.
