Here’s Nathan to perk up your Tuesday, let’s all meet up at Euro 2000
Happy Tuesday all. Welcome back to Rome. Well, actually, we are in Holland for Euro 2000 with Italy. The Roma lads are either on an international break or on holiday. Totti and Gautieri make the squad but who else is in?
It’s pretty much the same team from the World Cup final 2 years ago. Stellone is at AC Milan and has scored 12 in 12 so he comes along as well. Before the 1st game we have 2 friendlies. A 4-1 win over Switzerland and a rather worrying 2-1 loss to Saudi Arabia who had 10 men for over an hour. So let’s crack on with the Euros.
No idea how we don’t win this one. We batter them the whole game but Baia keeps everything at bay! Portugal take the lead in the 67th minute. We final find a way past Baia in the 81st minute when Signori tucks one in to the bottom corner.
Perfect response here against Bulgaria. Totti is absolutely sensational! He grabs 2 in the first half as well as an assist for Inzaghi and then completes his hattrick with a side foot volley in the second half. Brilliant!
Another nice win here this time over Denmark. Maldini set the tone early with a goal after just 2 minutes. Inzaghi and Totti trade goals and assists with each other to seal the win. Let’s look at the final group standings.
Absolutely no one predicted that group to finish like that.
Slovenia is another surprise if i’m honest.
Our win against Denmark sees us top our group.
Sweden must be gutted with this one!!
We cruise into the Semi Finals. Inzaghi slips through to open the scoring in the first half and Chiesa cuts inside and curls in our second to seal the win.
Absolute nightmare!! Our poor finishing costs us and in the 119th minute of extra time Luliano can’t avoid turning the ball into his own net. It’s all over.
Spain go on to beat France in the final to lift the Trophy. It’s announced that the next Euros will be in Italy so it’ll be home advantage for us in 4 years.
So back to the grind next week as we start season 4 with Roma. Hopefully you can join me then.
