The Last Roman – Part 20: European Dreams | @FMCM_FC

Happy Tuesday! Here’s Nathan keeping the good times going in Rome…

Hello again. Welcome back to Rome to see how Totti & Co are getting on. We are into season 5 and we started quite well. Top of the league after the opening 8 games and we won our first 2 group games in the Champions League after getting through the 1st round knockout game. The cherry on top was knocking arch rivals Lazio out of the Coppa Italia in the 2nd round. So let’s see if we can keep up the good form here.

Tough game away from home but i’ll take a point. Allan Ravn scores early for Benfica. We grow into the game and finally get an equaliser after an hour from Roll. Both teams have a goal disallowed as well.

It’s early in the season but losing to Juventus is never a good idea. Peter Degn is such a brilliant player on this game. He’s the difference maker in this one.

What a nightmare! We go 1-0 up thanks to Salas and we are cruising. 2 goals in 2 minutes in the 73rd and 75th minute though completely stun us and before we know it we are out of the Coppa Italia.

Lazio are in a bit of a mess. They’ve just sacked their manager so this is like a free hit. 4-0 up at half time with 2 a piece for Totti and Salas. Boksic makes it 4-1 before Totti scores from the spot to grab his hattrick. Salas scoring 2 against his former club must have stung for the Lazio fans.

Another win in the Champions League. 2 goals in both halves put us 4-0 up after 70 minutes. We switch off and allow Spartak back into the game but luckily they only have enough time for 2 goals.

Not a fan of losing against our main rivals. Salas scores just before half time but Milanese equalises straight from kick off in the second half. Ronaldo an Vieri score a goal each 5 minutes apart. Gautieri gives us hope but it’s false hope.

Not the most convincing of wins but i’ll take it. Salas is in great form right now, adding 2 more here.

Much more convincing here. Bogarde gets a rare goal for our opener. Eich skews a clearance into his own goal to make it 2-0. Totti and Salas swap goals and assists with each other in the second half to make it an easy 4-0 win.

Comfortable win in the Champions League. Fry is Ian Rush Jr and with Totti suspended i thought i’d give him a game and he rewards me with a thunderous opening goal. Salas grabs a quick double in the second half to seal the win.

A solid away win at Cremonese. Totti is back with a goal early doors. Gautieri cuts inside and bends his shot into the bottom corner. Pistone scores with a header from a freekick to make it 3-0. Arco gets one back but see out the game comfortably.

Pistone obviously had plans today as he gets sent off for 2 yellows in 32 minutes. Totti puts us 1-0 up just before that. Substitute Caceres heads us into a 2-0 lead with 10 minutes left and we see out the win.

Fantastic performance in our last group game. Totti and Gautieri put us 2 up after 20 minutes. Bogarde adds a 3rd before half time and Roll finishes it off with an easy tap in.

That puts us through to the Quarter Finals topping the group.

Poor result this one. Our strikers have an off day and one mistake by Schroder (Matthaus Jr) allows Minetti a free run through on goal and he slots it under Wright.

That’s it for this update. Let’s check out the league table.

Still top and we have a 3 point cushion. It’s going well so far. We drew Barcelona in the Champions League Quarter Final so i won’t hold my breath for going any further. Join me next time to see if we can stay top of the pile in Serie A. Ciao for now.
