The Last Roman – Part 24: Roman Charge On Europe | @FMCM_FC

Hello. It’s Tuesday and we are back in Rome with World Cup winner Totti. Gautieri and Pistone also came home with winners medals as well. In this update I’m going to change the format and do full season updates. So let’s dive in.

August & September

Bumper start to the season. We have a shocker in the Coppa Italia losing to Serie C Padova. We do however go unbeaten in the league and win our UEFA Cup 2nd round 1st leg convincingly.

This big win at home helped us to 2nd place in the table. New signing Roger getting off the mark. Inter are currently top which is an ominous sign.

4 games, 2 wins and 2 losses. We were terrible against Juventus, never even turned up. i’ll put our loss to Cagliari down to a mid week hangover from Europe. We bring a healthy 3-1 lead back to Rome with us against 1860 Munich.

We didn’t start this game very well. Chiesa, another World Cup winner, put Milan 1-0 up inside 10 minutes. Goma equalised from a corner and in the second half Baggio got sent off which turned the tie our way. The main man Totti popping up with the winner in the 88th minute.

Well we go unbeaten in the league but draws against Napoli and Piacenza aren’t good enough. We do move into the 4th round of the UEFA Cup and get a 3-1 win away at Gothenburg.

Pistone on a mad one here against Perugia!

December & January

2 really stupid losses against Castel di Sangro & Empoli. We march through to the Quarter Final of the UEFA Cup after 2 great games against IFK Gothenburg. We aren’t firing this season and i’m not sure what the problem is.

We finally get a win against Inter and it’s even better away from home. Salas with 2 screamers. Djorkaeff is in some good form at the moment and scoring against his old club must have felt good.

We open February with a loss to Cesena which is totally unacceptable. I swap the strikers around for the next game and Totti bangs in a hattrick. We win our next 3 games with a 9-0 aggregate. Cremonese and Cagliari were 4th and 5th respectively.

Cremonese have been the surprise package this season, not dropping out of the top 5 so far. I thought this would be a tough game but Totti made sure it wasn’t before getting a little over excited and getting sent off.

March is a tough month. We lose against run away leaders Milan. We’ve no chance of catching them. We get a decent draw against Juventus and fly past Benfica to reach the UEFA Cup Semi Finals.

A good result in a tough away game. Roger gave us the lead inside 10 minutes. Nuno Gomes equalises after some shoddy defending on our part. It’s looking like a draw until the 88th minute when Mahlas curls a beauty into the top corner.

April & May

April was a great month. We moved into the UEFA Cup final with comfortable wins against OB and went unbeaten in the league. We finished the season in 3rd thanks to some poor results but only 1 result mattered in the end…

We win our 2nd UEFA Cup beating Deportivo in the final. Roll gives us the lead but Tishenko equalises for Deportivo within 5 minutes. Just after half time Totti puts us back in the lead and we don’t look back. Roger seals the Cup with a late 3rd.

We finish 3rd. We were never catching AC Milan but our disappointing form in May cost us 2nd place. Totti was suspended for those games in May. So that’s it for another season. We have another UEFA Cup in the trophy room but we still can’t crack the domestic front. Join me next time to see if we can get closer on the home front.

Not one of Totti’s best seasons. He did still score some of our most important goals though and i think the World Cup took a bit out of him as well.
