30 For 30 – Season 13: 3rd Time Lucky | @FMCM_FC

Hello and welcome to season 13. If you have been with us from the beginning then thank you so much. it’s been a grind and we aren’t even half way. If you are new welcome along for the ride. We’ve had 2 seasons finishing 4th in Division 1 with Motherwell after back to back promotions from Division 3. Can it be 3rd time lucky to get promotion to the Premier League? Let’s find out.

August

What a start!! 6 games and 6 wins! Averaging just over 5 goals a game as well which is ridiculous. Premier League Clydebank & Arbroath are knocked out the Coca Cola Cup. The bad news is we lose left back Fede to Tenerife and Giggs Jr to Birmingham.

We were 2-0 down until the hour mark in this one. Hatton then grabbed 1 back before Viv Upson added a 2nd to draw us level. Right back Evans grabbed the winner in the 90th minute! Evans has been on fire so far this season.

September

8 games in September! We start with a loss then go on a little unbeaten run but those last 2 games we were crap. We were wasteful upfront and really poor defensively.

This win over Premier League Aberdeen sees us through to League Cup Semi Final! We started brillaint and deserved to go 1 up thanks to Upson. Hasan Babunski levelled for Aberdeen but Rennie got the winner in the 65th minute. We had to hang on for 20 minutes when Gray got sent off but we see out a famous win!

October

We look good for an unbeaten run in October until we lose to Kilmarnock. It was one of those games where no matter what we did we couldn’t score and when we did the ref ruled it out. We batter Livingston in the League Cup Semi Final to set a date with Celtic at Hampden.

We batter Airdrie with Rennie grabbing a hattrick and both keepers scoring own goals!

November

We have some injuries in defence and it’s really starting to show. I hate playing Dumbarton as they always seem to beat us. I’m proud of our Coca Cola Cup showing against Celtic. We ran them close and missed so many chances but those defensive injuries were punished.

Bit of revenge against East Fife who knocked us out of the Challenge League Cup. That injury to Swales was were the wheels came off for us.

December

2 draws and 2 wins see us go unbeaten in December. We lose both strikers for most of the month but get our defenders back.

Livingston are really bad so this score line is actual average against them. Nice to the goals being shared. Rivers (Kevin Phillips Jr) doing well standing in for Upson.

January

We start the month with a 3-2 loss against Kilmarnock and we were rubbish! what follows is 4 wins with 16 scored and only 1 conceded which is brilliant!!

This win over Albion Rovers sees us leapfrog them at the top of the table. Prenderville has set a club record for most assists in a season with 16 so far.

February

We get battered with injuries and suspensions during February. We lose to Berwick in the 90th minute. We make it through to the FA Cup QF after a win against Premier League Arbroath.

Rennie bags another hattrick. He’s on a club record 38 goals this season. Surely to be snapped up soon.

March is an ok month. We reach the FA Cup semi final after a replay with 2nd division Montrose. Rangers await. We get hammered 3-0 by Alloa which means we are top but level on points with Albion Rovers. We have 2 games remaining. Next up, Albion Rovers!

April

Get in!!! Motherwell are back in the big time!!

We go toe-to-toe with Rangers in the FA Cup Semi Final but they are to strong for us in the end. The win over Albion Rovers was massive as it all but secured the title for us.

This win on the final day saw us lift the Division 1 trophy. We went 1-0 down and i was fearing the worst. On the hour mark we won a penalty which Prenderville dispatched and that changed the game. Prenderville grabbed another and Kevin Phillips Jr chipped in to finish off the game and the season in style!

The final league table tells an interesting story. We lost 10 games but still managed to win the league. Albion Rovers drawing 15 ultimately cost them.

Well when I took over at Motherwell and got relegated to Division 3 my aim was to get back to the Premier League and we have done that. Join me next time to see how we get on with the big clubs of Scotland.
