30 For 30 – Season 15: Bittersweet Centurions | @FMCM_FC

Hello and welcome to the halfway stage of this challenge. I’ll be honest I underestimated just how long this would be but I’ve had fun along the way. We started with Morton, getting them into the Scottish Premier League and the UEFA Cup Quarter Finals before heading to Coventry. Relegated then promoted only to be relegated again was quite the rollercoaster. We ended up back in Scotland with Motherwell in Division 3. Back to back promotions then 3 attempts at Division 1 saw them return to the Scottish Premier League. Now we are at Crystal Palace who we couldn’t save from the drop last season despite some good results. Let’s have a crack at Division 1.

August

Just the 8 games in August! We win 6 and draw 2. Scored 14 and conceded just 1, against Division 3 Swindon awkwardly. It’s a near perfect start to the season and we sit top of the table with a Manager of the Month award as a cherry on top.

Sheff Weds have also started really well after coming down with us so this win was particularly pleasing.

September

Another 8 games in September and we win all 8. We are playing superbly at the moment. We beat my old club Coventry home and away in the League Cup to progress to the 3rd round.

This was 1st against 2nd and all 5 goals come in the last 15 minutes of the 1st half. Andrades scores the opener and then a minute later Bianconi makes it 2-0. Within 10 minutes it’s 2-2 as Northampton rock us with 2 goals in quick succession. Before any of us can regroup Andrades flies forward and grabs a 3rd for us. The second half may as well have not happened, complete snooze fest.

October

Still unbeaten in the league as we enter November. We lose to Premier League Hull in the League Cup 3rd round despite taking the lead.

Sheff Utd have been in and around the automatic places so far so this was a really good away win. Dario Whitington is a new signing and he’s been linking up really well with Miletic as they do in this game.

November

We finally lose against Altrincham. We had our keeper sent off but to be honest they were better than us before that anyway.

The front two are in top form here again. This was a good win as it was on the back of the loss to Altrincham.

December

The first game of December was a disaster at home to Sheff Weds who are 2nd. They hammer us 3-0 and it’s not even close. As you can see our response is fantastic with 3 wins and 12 goals!

This could be a very important win come the end of the season. We go 1-0 down in the second half and look dead an buried until 79th minute when Miletic heads home from a wicked cross. That reignites us and in the 88th minute Miletic is there again to score a late winner.

January

Our only loss this month comes in the FA Cup replay against former European Champions and last years runners up Man city. That draw with Northampton was a game in hand so a win would have been handy. Still we are 7 points clear at the top for now.

Playing 3 strikers really worked at West Ham with Andrades putting in a great performance.

February

Feb sees us claim a playoff spot at worst. The loss to Brentford was a poor performance even though we had players out injured and suspended. We did improve as the month went on and players came back.

Vigiani grabbed 2 in the opening 8 minutes of this one to set the tone early. Miletic scored just before halftime and just after to make it 4-0. the 28 goals he’s scored so far is a club record for a single season.

March

We start with a draw at Millwall and a win at home to Crewe. The Norwich game we had 6 first team members missing and it showed massively.

This entertaining win against Luton saw us seal promotion and reach 100 points for the season. A magnificent achievement!

The wheels completely fall off in April which results in this…

We were top of the league all season but Sheff Weds steal the title on the last day!!!! Gutted. Promotion was the aim, looking at the bigger picture, and we achieved that at a canter but to loose out with 111 points and 102 goals scored is a joke to be honest. Join me next time to see if we can have a better run in the Premier League than last time. Bye for now.
