You Can’t Win Anything With Kids – Part 1 – @KingOfTheRooks

It’s back to school time. No, no photos against the front door in freshly pressed uniform. Just pure CM9798 idiocy again from me. What and why I don’t hear you ask, but I’ll tell you anyway.

After some community comments about difficult challenges and an attempt at the Schoolboy signing only challenge, I considered my last attempt a four years ago I thought I’d give it another shot.

Consideration for me has been; was the level selected right for the quality of player at the start of the game? In that sense, I’ve locked myself in more by only allowing British based Schoolboys as signings, but improved the chances by landing in Scottish Division 3.

The squad I’ve managed to pull together is okay.

Some Arsenal, Leeds, QPR, Palace and Celtic alumni in that squad. As ever the ‘keepers will be the challenge. At 16 and 17 I consider them paper ‘keepers.

We start our season at Montrose. An injury on 19 minutes sees Morrison come on, open the doors, light my fire and get us going.

Match day two is Arbroath of fresh air. We continue to get a tune out of Morrison.

I should add, we’re playing 2-3-1-2-2 however, given player age and development stage, we’re playing passing rather than direct.

THANK THE LORD. Being out of the many Scottish Cups at this stage is a blessing to avoid injuries in our young squad as much as it leaves us the boy with a thistle his side.

Berwick are squished as McLelland gets his debut. Always happy to have a DM in the squad.

Two clean sheets as well, Rik Lopez working miracles as a paper ‘keeper. Next up the birthplace of the tallest Blog Squad member Ross Bell, which is a fact I have made up.

It’s going far to well. Well enough that we get done over two on the bounce. And I thought beating children was against the law.

We pick ourselves back up at who I’d consider league favourites East Stirling.

All the West Stirling fans were behind us but we just couldn’t quite get the best of them. Gordon Parks playing like he was trying to have a stadium named after him. We get lucky at Cowdenbeath; how many people have been to Cowdenbeath and been able to say that!

And then this irritated the hell out of me. When Warren Barton can’t speak, he’s…

Without Morrison signing his tune, Davidson gets his big break to ruin our fun, what a b******. Good old Montrose. It’s close, but getting goals like that from a young side is god’s work.

Another day, another game against the bottom three. These are the days the 502 British Schoolboy fans live for.

We beat Berwick 2-0 and then we close the season out with another. Word is spreading as our attendance creeps up to a massive 772. We’re like a rolling stone as Dillon puts some gloss on the finish of the first third of the season.

It’s going to be a tough ask to break East Striling and Alloa’s hold given we haven’t beaten either of them and their defences look much better than ours.

Unsurprisingly we are not any better at scoring but worse at conceding. Morrison got injured a few games back and this is how we ended up playing the final two games, bringing in former Liverpool man Tom Culshaw as a third defender.

This guy is absolutely golden.

You’d assume as an FR we’d be crap, but he’s relishing that AMC role.

No clubs circling yet, but BCRC is there and hanging over him like an axe. So far so good, well, much better than the attempt in England 4 years ago. There goes the bell, see you next time!
