It’s a new week but as the summer holidays draw to a close, so does the 03/04 season for AFC United. Can Matt rescue a mediocre season?

Welcome back to our regular Monday morning journey through the ‘what if’ careers of ex-United players. We’re heading into the business end of Season 7 and our title defense is weaker than the weak lemon drink of a keen hobbyist.

Mid-table mediocrity is so uninspiring…

The summer is hurtling along, Euro2020(21) is fading, I’ve just finished 2 weeks of annual leave and the new season is upon us….now where was I?

Oh yes, AFC United – a band of ex-Man Utd players being the best that they can be.

As a very quick recap, we stormed to the Premier League in 3 seasons, fired by the goals of David Brown and Erik Nevland, taking 1st place in each season, and then we did the unthinkable and won the Premiership in our maiden season. We fell to 5th in the following season but recovered last season to pip Villa to the title.

In the cups, we were runners up in the League Cup in Season 2, but won the FA Cup in Season 3 as we gunned through Division 1. This took us into the CWC which we won in Season 4

Last season, we pipped Villa to the league title, but lost to them in the FA Cup Final, only to prevail in the Uefa Cup final to pick up our second european title in just six seasons.

Faithful stalwart, Alan Tonge, has hung up his boots with a clutch of winners medals and a special place in or hearts, so we head into Season 7 with high hopes having snagged a long term target…

The Premier League might be over in reality, but for AFC United, it’s coming up for the end of Season 6 for my motley band of Man Utd alumni. In part 17 we got our act together to mount something resembling a title challenge and we’re still involved in the FA and Uefa Cups, and it’s on the FA Cup where the action picks up…

Derby are our opponents and if the question is David Brown, then they don’t have the answer

Good morning and happy Monday. Here’s Matt with the latest from AFC United.

Hello and welcome back to more ramblings from my Man United alumni. We’re a third of the way through our 3rd season in the Prem and after the highs of our title winning season, last year paled in comparison. We are aiming to put that right, but nothing will be instant.

We left Part 16 in the familiar surroundings of 5th in the league but our action restarts in Europe, Portugal to be exact.

We have a nice 5-1 cushion from the first leg so some fringe players come in – yes, Michael Own is fringe when you have David Brown – but he makes his mark in the 13th minute only for To Ze to make it 6-2 on the night. Owen stretches our lead further until some minor panic when Silva and Maniche add further goals either side of a Twiss red, but it’s all Acidemica in the end.

Season 6? How did that happen? I’m full of hope for this season. Last season ended with us scrabbling to find a European place after we finished 5th in the league and the ‘real’ Man United beat us to the FA Cup.

Hopefully we can relight that spark that saw us rise through the divisions and pick up a clutch of trophies along the way. To get things off on the right foot, I tie David Brown up on a new contract. We can’t really afford it, and after his showing last season, he probably doesn’t deserve it, but I made him the man he is today, so I’d better stick by him, or this all Counts for nothing.
