A Belgian Story – The Road to World Cup 2006: Part 22 | @verbist_philip

Do you think Saturday feels left out at Easter? Good Friday, Easter Sunday, Easter Monday. Regular old Saturday. Luckily for us we have Philip to make it special. Enjoy!

Hallo allemaal!

Am I glad it’s Saturday again. It’s not that the days are so much different from one another when your children are at home, but at least on Saturday I am making my weekly trip to the Freethiel. Are you coming along?

It’s the start of Season 8 and for Belgium it will be a crucial season. We play 6 of our 8 qualifying matches for the 2006 WC, including both of our matches against current European Champions Portugal. At the end of the season we should have an idea how realistic the first part of our ultimate goal is: qualifying!

Here’s Philip with the Beveren run-in. Is another trophy laden season on the cards?

Hallo allemaal!

Happy Saturday everybody! I am glad spring has finally arrived. Also with the Beveren Boys it’s the end of winter and the lads are preparing themselves for the finale of Season 7. We’re in pole position, but similar to last season Standard is very close and we’ll fight together for the title. We suffered a first round Cup exit, so our supporters will accept nothing less but three-peat.

Another hectic week of action on cm9798.co.uk concludes with our Saturday trip to Belgium. One of these days I will Google the translation of allemaal but until that time comes, here’s Philip.

Hallo allemaal!

Finally it’s weekend again! I am here to get it started with the latest of the Beveren Boys. Last week we took a fantastic start. After 10 matches, Club Brugge is the only team that manages to stay close. Standard and Anderlecht are already respectively 6 and 7 points behind. We are in the CL Group Stage for the third consecutive time, and the draw has put us in a group where everybody is a favourite and the form of the day will decide who qualifies. We’re only third so far, but everything is still possible.

Fresh from managing Barcelona in Champions League Manager, here’s Philip back at his day job in Beveren.

Happy Saturday everybody!

Last week we finished the blog with an emergency meeting at the Belgian Football Association’s headquarters. In a press conference later that day they make the following announcement: “Because of the disappointing results the last years we have decided, in mutual consent, that Georges Leekens will step away as head coach of Belgium. We are grateful he will stay on board as assistant and press responsible. We have approached Philip Verbist, the current head coach of Beveren, and we are extremely happy that he accepted our offer as new head coach of Belgium. We wish to thank Georges for his tremendous efforts and are confident that we are taking the right step for the future. Thank you very much, we will take no questions.”

It was about time! Finally Georges “Mr 90%” Leekens is out. Let’s hope we can do a better job!

Happy Saturday everybody!

I hope you all enjoyed the new blog of Nick as much as I did yesterday. Big shoes to fill and keep you entertained as we go into the weekend. I hope I can with the last part of Season 6!

It’s been a great season so far! Abeels (Nilis) is taking big steps towards stardom and we are taking advantage of that. We are a title contender again this season and after 20 matches in the regular season we are together with Standard in 1st position. They have only lost once and their defence is rock solid. If we think of going for back-to-back titles, we will have to deal with the “Rouches”.

Here’s Philip with the latest from Beveren to start your weekend the right way

Hallo allemaal!

Happy Saturday! As of last week we are a full regen squad. That required a tough decision: putting Van Den Eede, our local hero of the past 5 seasons, on the bench. Our home crowd wasn’t too pleased, but slowly Abeels (Nilis) is winning over their hearts. Making a transition from a successful formula takes time, and our board made clear at the end of last week’s update that a 6th position is not what they had in mind. I have no doubts that what we are doing is the right thing. Let’s see how it goes further, shall we?

Happy Saturday! Philip has a new season to prepare for in Beveren but are there any regens taking his fancy?

Hallo allemaal!

Saturday morning! Time for our weekly trip to the Freethiel. Let’s start Season 6 with our Beveren Boys!

Last season several top regens joined our team and that had immediate effect: after an excellent season we won our first title! And not only that: we made it to the Belgian Cup final and participated for the first time in the Champions League Group Stage. That calls for more, doesn’t it!

With our title The Big Three became The Big Four and the question is: can we live up to the expectation? Theoretically I’d say yes: the core of the team is still there and our regens are 1 year older. But there is nothing as difficult as repeating an excellent season.

We may have a good core, that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be on the lookout for new regens. Let’s see what the Free Transfer market has to offer.

SATURDAY! Philip’s in a great mood so you should be too.

Hallo allemaal!

I don’t care if Monday’s blue, Tuesday’s grey and Wednesday too, Thursday I don’t care about you, it’s Saturday I’m in love. With that small adaption of a famous The Cure song, we return to Beveren for the last part of Season 5.

We start today’s blog in 3rd position. But don’t let our current position fool you, we are having a very good season. We qualified for the Champions League Group Stage (and earned 3 points), we are in the Quarter Final of the Belgian Cup and we have 42 points after 18 games. Too bad Club Brugge and Anderlecht are equally good so far.

Welcome to your CM9798 weekend. I was going to try and do an intro but Philip’s is much better. Enjoy your latest trip to Beveren!

Hallo allemaal!

Saturday, Saturday, Saturday, it’s a Saturday-ay-ay. On the groove of De La Soul we’re not going rollerskating, but continuing Season 5 with the Beveren Boys.

Last week we welcomed a bunch of quality regens. If we can develop them to their potential, we will become a force able to compete with the Big Three. The first part of Season 5 started very good: we’re in 2nd position after 8 games and we managed to qualify for the CL Group Stage.

Last week we finished the blog with our first CL Group Stage point. I keep confidence in the same 11 and we kick off today’s blog at Charleroi. We open in style!

Happy Saturday! Philip is plotting for the new season with a Belgian regen hunt but will it help Beveren secure a Champions League group spot?

Hallo allemaal!

It is Saturday so here we are again with the latest of the Beveren Boys. Last week we finished Season 4 and what a season that was. Early exits in the Cup Winners Cup and the Belgian Cup, but the lads made up for that in the regular season. In a nerve wrecking finale we ultimately gave it all away and finished 2nd.

It still feels a bit sour, but it makes me even more confident that with a few additional top regens we will win the title in one of the following seasons.

Before we start regen hunting let’s say goodbye to Roland Velkeneers. He lost his place last season between the posts, but he was a key player in our first 3 seasons. Happy retirement Roland!
